Focal

Focal-JMLab of Saint-Etienne, France, has been designing and selling loudspeakers, automotive speaker drivers, headphones and monitor speakers since 1979.

Jacques Mahui was an engineer and tech journalist with a love of hi-fi. He built his first speaker drivers out of a workshop in his father's precision mechanics company. Soon he was selling his first bookshelf speakers, the DB13, which produced volume and bass frequencies uncommon for their size. The Grande Utopia loudspeaker, introduced in 1996, earned Focal a global reputation. Their three-way high-end Sopra No2 loudspeakers are highly sought-after on the secondary market.
