For sale is my Eastern Electric MiniMax Phono preamplifier.  It comes with the original substantial factory packaging, manual, Baldwin-branded NOS 12AX7 tubes, and heavy duty power cord.

I am the second owner, and the unit presents as new.  I am picky but can find no defects.  Build quality is substantial, weighing in at a hefty 15 pounds.  This is a tube-rectified design, using a 6X4 rectifier, with three 12AX7s in the output section (the center tube sporting a metal RFI shield).  Under the cover, it is a classic tube design: point-to-point wiring, ceramic tube sockets (not plastic), and a choke in the power supply.  The front panel features only a power on/off toggle switch, a blue LED power indicator, and a rotary play/mute switch.  The back panel has an IEC socket so you can use your own power cord if you like, a grounding lug, a switch for either MM or MC inputs, and three pairs of inputs.  There is one pair of MM inputs and two MC inputs for high and low output cartridges.  The MC inputs connect to the expensive and rare Permalloy core step-up transformers used to increase the voltage of low-output moving coil (MC) cartridges.  You have not heard great vinyl until you have heard a MC cartridge into a high quality step up transformer into a tube preamplifier!  Inputs and outputs are RCA connectors.

In January of this year, I had the preamp upgraded by Tom Tutay, of Transitions Audio.  His power supply modification is well known and highly regarded among Eastern Electric phono owners.  He added much more energy storage capacitance to the high voltage supply, replaced 2 diodes with superior diodes, replaced the output coupling capacitors with a larger value, and more.  The result is increased headroom and dynamics, and improved low frequency extension and definition.  The cost for the Tutay modification was $350 dollars.

You can roll in your own preferred NOS 12AX7s and take the performance up even further.  This is a great sounding, highly regarded phono preamp period, and a giant killer at its price.
