ATC SCM40A active speakers for sale in satin black. Original owner. Latest version.
Less than 3 years old. Manufacture date November, 2017.

There’s only been one version of the SCM40A... although the passive version SCM40 is up to version 2.

These have the incredible ATC midrange driver that is found on their very expensive upper end models.

If you’ve heard ATC speakers a long while back ( with the old tweeters) or read that they are cold and analytical sounding and dismissed them, you might be missing out on one of the greatest values in hi end audio today. To me, they have the best midrange performance I’ve ever experienced in 30 years of high end audio. They are almost electrostatic like in their sound but with much greater weight to the sound and way better bass performance.

I thought they might be too revealing of poor sounding recordings but that is not the case at all. They almost sound like a single driver speaker with amazing coherence and presence. I’d say they even have a touch of warmth.

I have the original boxes and all original accessories but I’m offering these for sale as pick up only in Mill Valley, CA in Marin County about a 20 minute drive outside of San Francisco.

These are active, powered speakers which contain an amp pack which has 3 class A/B power amps and an active, electronic crossover. For the utmost in speaker control each individual amp is dedicated to one of the 3 drivers... 150 watts for the bass driver, 60 watts for the midrange driver and 32 watts for the tweeter. If you’ve never heard a high end active speaker before prepare to be blown away.

Each speaker plugs into the wall or your power strip and contains an XLR input which connects to your preamp or dac/streamer with a volume control.

Don’t be concerned if your source or preamp doesn’t have XLR outputs.
You can get a pair of interconnects made with RCA to XLR if needed.. I’d recommend Mogami W2549 cable which is excellent and very inexpensive. A pro audio company called Redco in Connecticut can build you a pair for under $75. They even built me a pair of din4 to XLR Interconnects to use with my Naim 52/ Supercap preamp.

I’ve run my Chord Dave dac directly into the ATC’s using the Dave’s excellent volume control and great analog output stage and the sound is breathtaking. It makes for a very compact system. You could even use something like a Mytek Brooklyn dac straight into these speakers.

The speakers weigh about 80 lbs each and the cabinet is only 10.5 inches wide although with the outrigger bases the width extends to 14.5 inches. The depth of the cabinet is 11.75 and with the bases they are 13.5 inches deep. They are about 39 inches tall. They are not an imposing speaker at all looks wise.

The speakers are in perfect operating order and are very good cosmetically with a light mark on the front baffle where the magnetic, metal grill attaches. It’s covered by the grill when in use. See photos. Also, one speaker has a scratch on the bottom. Obviously, you can’t see it when the speakers are in use but I wanted to mention it anyway.
