For sale is a pair of Thiel CS 3.7 speakers in cherry finish.

This model received favorable reviews in both The Absolute Sound and Stereophile, with TAS saying “it may well represent the most accurate dynamic speaker at anything close to twice its price or more”. The first-order crossovers and concentric tweeter-in-midrange mounting ensure exceptional phase coherency, and the specially designed driver magnets made this an amazingly low-distortion speaker in its price class at the time it was designed (as it is even now). Midrange and above easily “disappear” into a soundfield with no speaker there.

Bass is quite good, though I would recommend 200 watt or higher amplifiers – I used mainly a Mark Levinson 532H which paired very well. Bass can be further improved by adding Thiel’s crossover and subwoofer, which I am offering in another listing.

This speaker system offers a great balance of qualities: Tuneful bass, very flat and transparent response from midrange up, fast transient response rivaling ribbons and electrostatics, superb dispersion, and excellent soundstaging. At 91 pounds per side, it is also easier to move around than many high-end speakers.

Rating these 6/10 due to a few light scuffs and scratches on the sides. I believe the main thing you will notice is the natural wood finish, not the minor imperfections. All the significant issues can be seen in the pictures.

Specifications:

Drive-units: 1" aluminum-dome tweeter mounted coincidentally within 4.5" flat aluminum midrange driver, 10" flat aluminum woofer, 10" flat aluminum passive radiator.

Crossover slopes: acoustic first-order.

Frequency response: 33Hz–26kHz, ±2dB.

Phase response: ±10° minimum.

Impedance: 4 ohms nominal, 2.8 ohms minimum.

Sensitivity: 90 dB/2.83V/m.

Recommended power: 100–600W.
Dimensions: 44.9" H by 12.6" W by 21.3" D. Weight: 91 lbs.

Questions for the seller
Are there scratches on the side wood or is it just on the black top part? I cannot see any scratches on the wood from your photos.
I think there are two on the side. In picture 8 (where the big one is #1), you can see the scratch on the black top, and also in the upper left of the wood you can see a surface "scrape" that is filled in; visible if you look closely. There is also a "scuff" about 1/2" by 3/8" near the top of the other speaker on the side. More like wear and tear than "oh these are damaged".
Are u the original buyer and how old are they?
I am the original buyer. I bought them in 2012 from Future Sound in Burlingame CA.
