This listing is for: AudioQuest WEL Signature 1.0 meter XLR pair of cables with updated DBS Carbon packs
This pair of cables is in good condition and operates perfectly. There is no damage of any kind. The original box and packaging is included which seems to be uncommon with most WEL series cables that come available. There is some light fraying of the braid as happens to any AQ cables after a short time. Shipping is FREE in the USA. Inquire for shipping options to other parts of the world.
The reason for the sale is that I don't use these anymore - I have one pair of later-model WEL cables as well as a pair of newer AQ Dragon XLR cables. So this pair of WEL is redundant for me.
This is an early verision of Audioquest's flagship interconnect from around 2009 or slightly before. The braiding was a multicolor blue/black for a short time before Audioquest changed to a solid black braid in 2010/2011 if not earlier.
Throughout the lifetime of Audioquest's WEL signature interconnect, Audioquest updated the braid cosmetics, the DBS cosmetics (the last version around 2019 had DBS Carbon), went from 7 to 8 layers of their AQ "noise dissipation system," changed the connectors, and raised the price. Ultimately, the cable changes over the years amount to cosmetic updates.
I have a later version of the WEL Signature and compared to this older model, there is very little difference. My experience tells me that the difference that I do hear is due to the different connectors. The resolution is equal between old and new editions. The only difference I hear is that the older model has a more crystalline presentation where the later model has a hint of more color. In any iteration, I would not call the WEL Signature a warm sounding cable. It does not sugar coat. If you have a cool or bright sounding system, you'll hear more of it, If you have a neutral or slightly warm system, you will hear your system at near its best.
Needless to say, Audioquest WEL is a reference cable in any version and among the best interconnects ever made in my opinion. It was (and still is) a reference to measure other cables against. The top end clarity is stunning. Musical notes and voices fade into absolute silence. Dynamics are unrestrained and compression is subjectively non-existent. I had never heard a cable with this resolution before I purchased this WEL Signature cable.
