Description

I'm pretty much done putting together my system and am really enjoying the open baffles compared to my previously owned box type speakers with Rel subs.  Even though the room is narrow with short ceilings the bass is extremely well controlled and detailed.  Open baffle bass definitely reduces bass nodes interactions and never had this type of bass control/detail in this room before.
The Spatials are 97 db efficient so extremely easy to drive especially since the bass below 90 hz is self powered therefore my integrated amplifiers only power them from 90 hz upwards which is very easy to do.
Thinking of adding a turntable in the near future, we will see

    • Pathos Acoustics Twin Towers Ref
35 watt/channel hybrid tube Class A integrated amplifier.  Single ended and no negative feedback.  Sound can be altered by rolling 12ax7 input driver tubes
    • TSAKIRIDIS Aeolos
35 watt EL 34 all tube integrated amplifier
    • Spatial Audio X5
Open baffle speaker.  97 db/8 ohm very easy to drive.  World class Beyma AMT tweeter that operates from 1 khz upward.  12 inch Eminence paper midrange that operates from 90 hz to 1 khz.  12 inch high performance Eminence bass driver that operates from 25 hz to 90 hz.  The bass driver is powered by a 250 watt NCore class D amplifier with DSP.
Extremely dynamic realistic sounding with some of the best bass control definition I've experienced in a non ideal room
    • Metrum Acoustics AMBRE
High performance streamer which has all digital outputs including I2S.  Tenta labs clocks, discrete circuitry and internal linear power supply.  Ethernet connection only.  Using Volumio as the software with Tidal and Qobuz integration
    • Metrum Acoustics Onyx
Non oversampling R2R DAC made in the Netherlands and matches the Ambre.  Has I2S connectivity and I've found the I2S connection to sound the best between the Ambre and Onyx.

The Onyx was upgraded to the latest DAC 3 modules and four modules are necessary.  Each module has 4 custom in house made R2R DACs bringing the total to 16 DACs.  This brings the upgraded Onyx to the same level as the Sonnet Morpheus according to the designer of both DACs.
    • PS Audio Stellar Power Plant P3
Latest PS audio power regenerator which is only used for the digital front end equipment
    • Pioneer DVD 525 cd player
A late 90's cd/dvd player that was modified by Tweak audio to reduce jitter, improve performance.  I don't play cds often but it still works and sounds fine.

6 corner bass traps, 4 alpha 4 hybrid diffusion/absorption panels, various treatments on the ceiling and 8 foot by 4 foot diffusion on front wall.

What are the "8 foot by 4 foot diffusion on front wall"?  I've looked all over the GIK website and can't find them.  Also, what brand are your racks?  Thanks!

Love your room and I’m a big fan of GIK room treatments b/c I had nasty 40-60Hz bass node to tame.  I like your idea of having open baffle speakers instead of tower types to address that.

golfsh00ter

how do you make your amp only go down to 90 hz, that would be good for decware zen amp !!

Very fine!
