Description

Well, thi sis no reference system by any means, but it's what I could swing. I am looking for a Bookshelf type/ monitor speaker that would match well with this system. I have herd the Pro Ac response 1sc's and Liked them, but there may be more I have overlooked. I do greatly enjoy a warm musical sound, even if I have to do without the "n"th degree of detail. Any suggestions would greatly help. Thank you

how big is your listening space... YOu need to know what you need instead of what other people think is good. In order to choose, you have to consider dimension first. Do you want a 6"x12" speaker or a 6ftx12ft speaker?

If you're willing to go a bit larger, look into the PBN Montana SPX or Thiel CS 2.3. The Montana's are naturally quite smooth. The Thiels would fit wonderfully into your system, especially with the MIT cables -- I believe you would get both the detail and the musicality.

If you really want to stay within a bookshelf size, I'll second the motion on the Paradigms (60 v2 with stands). If you want to go really small, the JM Lab Chorus 706's have had good reviews. Good luck. Choose with your ears and try the alternatives at home if you can.

can't say how they'd match w your amp, but you might wanna consider Reynaud Twins. I have these monitors in a secondary system, but they sound so good I spend almost as much time with them as with my 15x more expensive main system! I team them w a Kora Design 30 (el34 tube integrated), and the result is incredibly deep, rich, pacey, and most importantly, engaging and musical. go over to audioasylum.com and do a search to see just how highly regarded they are. I sometimes see them used at approx $500. highly recomended.....especially w tubes! don't be fooled by the price. they are tremendous performers. Just for giggles, I attached my $5500 300B amp to them, and damn if they didn't sound good. Many pieces of gear have come and gone here, but for the money, you just gotta keep these!

Dear Audiophile friend: You only have one reasonable choice right now for speakers; THE MONSOONS 1600'S will bring that system to it's right sonic dimension Guarranteed!!! If you have never heard of these speakers, write to me and I will send you some information.

try polks or PSB Image 2B.Proacs are good . But dont bad mouth B&W Theyre amongst the best speakers I've heard.Just bought a pair, after dreaming about them for some fifteen years or so. Sounds like sour grapes to me .

Speakers are the heart of the system. Find some you like for your room and budget, then trade any components you have that are not a good match. Stereophile Recommended Components gives a complete range to choose; Class 'A' (state of the art); to 'D' (entry level/budget ---but still audiophile), with prices, and an synopsis review to give some idea of what to expect. It took years to discover speakers should come first. Then speaker placement. Followed by some room treatment as needed. And the big mystery....try to find decent source material to properly evaluate your system (easier said than done---most CD's are low-fi, a few mid-fi, hardly ever hi-fi, but there are some out there. The trick is how to tell :-). Then components, followed by cables. Building a system out of order only causes frustration because it is futile. Though it can make you a good consumer before you give up, or learn a valid priority.

Totem model 1 sig. or Totem Mani 2's ,if you have the extra cash. Both should match your system. They have nice highs, mids with the Mani 2's having killer bass.

ProAc's are very good. Aerial Model 5's or Revel's M20's. Any of those with a musical subwoofer would make for a very nice full, warm, and blooming soundstage. If you are thinking about a sub, you might consider a Bag End Infra-sub 18" sub to audition. Very tight and musical and you can pick up a used one for around $900.

Consider the Harbeth P3's, smaller again than the 7's. Very detailed, yet musical. Good luck!

You might discover that B&W N-805s will serve quite well. They are generally a bit bright but with mit interconnects they provide a warm presentation.

2001impala

Paradigm studio series--I a/b'd them against B&W cdm nt 7s, and I found them to be warm. The Kimber 8tc cables are also on the warm side.
