American electronics with Prestige Tannoy speakers

Finnally my system really works.I tried several electronics with the Tannoys, like Class , Copland, Cary. But the Tannoys really work with SE Class A Amplifiers and tube Preamp.

First I bought one Aleph 30, and it sound incredible, better than many others tube amplifiers. Because it is not expensive I bought another to biamp. And yes, the biamp. works with these speakers. (remember that they have 1.1K crossover frequencie) Better channel separation, less distorsion and a little more power. Sound: big but smooth. very detail and musical. Deep bass but not exaggerated. You will hear the records as they are.

    It is not very expensive but for the Tannoy it works better than expensive Audioquest Volcano and Mont Blanc.

    This cable really upgrade the HD600 perfomance. Highly recomended.
    • Pioneer DVL-909
    DVD-Laserdisc Player. I use it to hear some old material in Laserdisc.
    I also connect it to the KPS-20i Dac.

Yes, very nice system indeed. I have found my vintage HPD 315's (12" Dual Concentric) really like tubes, using an upgraded 10 WPC Sophia Baby amp. I may get around to biamping some day, but I'll have to change my crossovers to accomodate the change, so I'll hold off on that. Old or new, Tannoy's are hard to beat for their musicality.

Nice! Vertical bi-amping is the way to go. Gosh, I miss my Aleph 30.

Nice to see someone with the same speakers, a rare thing to see. I must say, everyday I am really enjoying the aspects of these Tannoys. Was thinking about selling them for Wilson or Martin Logan, but neither of these convinced me that they are an improvement.
I’m not sure, how many pairs where sold of these but I don’t think it goes in the thousands.

About the supertweeter on top of them, is it really a big plus?

I am very intersted in your experiences with amplification of your Tannoy's. I have a pair of Glenair's that I have matched with a Classe DR-3- which is an older, pure class A solid state design. Which Classe amp did you use in the past? Were your Cary's SET amps?

I don´t know why Tannoy Prestige series is not very popular in USA. Probably because there are a little number of dealers or because price is too high in USA or because Tannoy doesn´t have american bass as Wilson. But for me are the most natural speakers.
Your Tannoy modifications are perfect.
I agree with you about the KPS-20i. Although it has many years, probably it is one of the best Cd player ever made.
