Description

My dedicated listening room is 13Ft x 20Ft, with 8Ft ceilings. It has an RT60 of less than .3 sec. I listen to mostly Blues, some Jazz and some Classical.

It has a wide soundstage, sometimes extending beyond the speakers. The diffusion gives an involving, airy ambiance. Vocals are very easy to understand and defined naturally in the soundstage.

I added VK-150se Mono blocks, VPI Classic 3 with a Benz LP cart, Sutherland Hubble phono stage stage and a VPI SDS.

    • Eggleston Works Rosa
The Rosa Loudspeaker is one of the great values in audio today. The Rosa provides identical performance in the treble and midrange as the Andra, using the same world-class tweeter and transmission loaded midrange drivers. The woofer section in the Rosa is conventional, utilizing two 6-inch drivers in a dual ported vented enclosure. Many consider the Rosa the most elegant of the EgglestonWorks loudspeakers. SPECIFICATIONS Frequency response is from -3dB @ 31 Hz to well beyond 24,000 Hz. Efficiency is 87dB. Impedance is 8 Ohms, nominal. Minimum impedance is 6.3 Ohms. Tweeter: One 1 cloth dome with a large-diameter vent on its pole piece and a big aperiodic damping chamber which imitates an infinite baffle loading. The tweeter is manufactured on a special production line under laboratory conditions. Mid-bass: Two 6 carbon fiber, double-magnet drivers, each with a 3 voice coil diameter. Extremely rigid structural physics and the piston-like action of these drivers produce exceptionally quick transients and a complete absence of coloration. These drivers are run full-range and placed in two independently tuned transmission lines which allow them to see the same pressure behind as in front. The very short transmission line lengths are the result of specific stuffing densities derived from the slowing effect of damping material on the speed of lower-frequency sound waves. Bass: Two 6 carbon fiber woofers in a dual-ported vented enclosure. Internal wiring is manufactured by Transparent Audio. The use of Single Cardas rhodium binding posts simplifies full optimization of the speaker. Because the full-range mid-bass drivers are connected directly to the input of the speaker, bi-wiring offers no added benefit The crossover for the tweeter is hard wired. We utilize Mundorf and Vishay resistors. Damping material or stuffing is Acousta-Stuff, a nylon polymide loose bulk fiber that is tri-lobal (instead of round) and multi-directionally crimped so that the strands interlock to form a very cohesive mass that does not require support and will not settle. The grills are made of an extremely transparent material which is stretched over a thin steel frame. They attach via magnets which are buried under the surface laminate, allowing the speakers to look as finished with the grills on as with them off.

System edited: I updated my pictures with my new equipment. The ceiling diffusion at the first reflection point was changed to GIK 224 bass traps. The result is much deeper bass and more detail on the high frequencies.

What a sweet collection of gear, it must be very enjoyable to listen too. Not crazy about the look of your room treatments blocking the window, but must commend you on putting the audio first. Nice having a dedicated room. WAF need not come into play. Great system, happy listening.

The biggest improvement was adding diffusion directly above the seating area. It made classical music come alive and took the edge off listening to Blues. I’m going to add more diffusion to the front and re-post pictures around Christmas.

What room treatment do you think works best? What was the before and after result>?

vernneal

Hi Bigby, I just inserted some Real Traps Mondo Traps into my system and I can now attest how much of an improvement they are. Your room looks to be very well thought out with great use of acoustic treatment. I am now of the opinion that room treatments are one of the most important aspects of the hobby. Even more important, IMHO, than what amp or preamp you are using!

daveyf

nicely done

Bigby - congrats on paying so much attention to room acoustics. Looks like a great job thus far. Enjoy.

I bet this sounds wicked! Well done, man!
