Thank you. Not totally surprising to hear “hard to beat Sony” as they had done so much early innovation in this area. For what it is worth I found this video encouraging that this gentleman was open minded enough to try this as a vinyl lover and he unlocked some benefits that are hard to match with physical media. I also tried this after leaving Axpona this year and equally enjoy. Not trying to create any format wars or objections just live and learn even after decades. https://youtu.be/xU34E4hdaVU?is=cVIf5vTNzdGGfB7z
I had a good system when I moved here 7 years ago. But the speakers didn't perform as well as in my previous home. So I drew up my objectives:
* Reduce components and wiring from mono blocs and line stage to an integrated amp.
* Keep tubes in the system, at least with source components.
* Have all components fit onto the 5 shelves in my Target rack.
* Find speakers with better dispersion which still extended down to at least 42 Hz so a subwoofer was not necessary.
* Don't sacrifice musical enjoyment.
I'm more pleased with this set up.
@syocum, I was still using a very old Sony 707 CDP. Analog playback is still preferred, but I thought CD players must have improved after so many years. And in simplifying I did want DAC, transport, and more wires. Also I didn't want to spend a lot to play CDs. But CD deck shopping is difficult with fewer brands and dealers for auditions. I did try a Pro-Ject and then Marantz with mail order returns. Neither sounded as good as the Sony. A couple of critical reviews suggested the Advance Paris might be the one, and it includes tubes. It's not a hands-down winner over the Sony but quite good. Two complaints, once I became used to the remote, the drawer is very shallow so care is needed to properly place a disc in position. Also the drawer does not remain open very long so have the next disc ready when removing one just played. It didn't knock me out but CD listening can be enjoyable.
Very clean and uncluttered system, well done. Rare to see it seems especially with someone in the hobby so long. Creates a relaxing vibe before the first note is played. I would love to hear what you think of the Advance Paris CD player sound. Enjoy.
It is a simple but clean neat system. I have seen many cases where after decades into hifi, people go the simpler route. I am sure that MoFi speaker and Accuphase integrated are a great match and you are thrilled with the results. No doubt you decided to share. Keep it up and enjoy the music!
