Description

This is an odd collection to be sure, but it really sings with all types of music. Any comments appreciated.

Lots of bang for the buck on this one. And there's something cool about top loaders.
    • Pioneer SX-1980
This is a 1978 unit in terrific condition. I am only the second owner. I play it every day, and it sounds remarkably good -- and it is eye candy to beat the band (glass walls here at the office and this monster draws lots of sighs from men over a certain age).
    • Joseph Audio Pulsar
Yes, they are as good as the reviewers say (but not necessarily in every system). The sound really terrific with the vintage Pioneer, but odly, were not great on my main rig at home (with Pass x250.5, etc.). Go figure.
    • Velodyne SPL Series II
Nice little sub. It plays music, not a one-note thumper at all.

I have no experience with a ported sub, so cannot comment with experience. That said, I would think it might be very difficult to place the sub so as to have it keep up with the ATCs -- such that a sealed sub is the way to to go. This Velodyne does a nice job, but it is not the last word in subs. It is small, which I needed for my office. I am a fan of JL Audio (have the F-112 at home), which is tighter and much more tuneful. Depending on your room size, I suggest you consider starting at the JL Audio F-110 and move larger if you need. Enjoy.

I purchased and am waiting delivery of the new ATC SCM19's for my home kit, and and wondering if my old ported sub will sound sloppy with the super resolving ATC's. Tell me more about the Velodyne. Would you buy the same one again if starting over?
