Description

Sounds great overall for both music and movies. LINN speakers all around.... very dynamic sound. The REL subwoofer works GREAT with LINN speakers. Pretty happy for now. Although when I look back at the miles of cables behind my entertainment unit, wish I had a really simple 2-channel setup for another room - music only. Thinking of taking the LINN Ikemi CD player and LINN Wakonda pre-amp out of this system and making a new 2-channel monitor system in another room. Any ideas on a good amp and monitor speaker that will work well with the Ikemi and Wakonda??? Looking to spend maybe $3,000 on the monitors (with speaker cables) and about $2,000 on amplification. I have listened to some Dynaudio's and the little Revel M20's. Thought about trying to find a used Klout (natural choice for a LINN freak).

ive been a linn man for 10 years, own gen wok 85 w/active cards into kel and i would use the ik into wok into 140 with ninkas, very simple and use the good cables such as 400 and transparent plus interconnects.....would use lps only if you want to sink tons of money into cart. and listen to one sided lps as i did for 1000 yearsk, ike and cds with linn simple amp set up,that
s where linn came from ,very simple set ups then they expanded for american markets and of course doing very well ,but keep it simple, cd,wok,amp,400cable,ninka,transparent plus intc. ,set it up in a room only by itself with a couple of chairs ,its doesnt matter what size room ,i/m in a 10 x 12 with using some acoustical things in corners, play around with speaker setup and cd islation, you would be amazed how simplicity in setup makes makes the music cleaner and enjoy listening to music and not equipment....very important, that is what linn would also tell you, although they want you buying cd10 andkromie speakersw, they want you to listen and enjoy the music, simple, simple simple

Linnman,

What do you think about the K600? What did you pay per foot, if I may ask? What about its termination? And, where did you buy it?

Thanks,

I agree with Twl. I have had two LP12's since the 70's. My current tt is exactly what Twl described with the addition of the Cirkus mod. Upgrading the turntable from here would have much more to do with want than need.

I have an all-Linn 2 channel system. Besides the turntable, the best money I spent was on an Aktiv speaker system. The benefits are huge. I was lucky enough to find a complete used Aktiv system here on Audiogon for cheap. Without going into a lot of detail about all the subtle improvements let me sum it up by saying that my enjoyment of ALL my source material went waaay up! I even listen without fatigue to cd source material. Email me if you would like any further information.

Also, depending on the ease of installation, you can leave the Wakonda and Ikemi where they are and invest in the Linn whole-house control system which I know NOTHING about.

Happy listening,
Patrick

I have seen, right here on the A'gon Classifieds, some Linn LP12 TT's with Valhalla mods and Ittok arms for around $750-$850. This is a really nice combination that I happily lived with for about 10 years. It takes a pretty good analog rig to beat that combo. Many would be very happy with that setup forever, as it is certainly well matched and musically enjoyable. I find the used LP12 TT's to be the best value in analog today. You can get better, but not for that kind of money.

Linnman,

I'm a bit surprised that you don't have an LP12. Linn certainly has some great equipment, but their LP12 singlehandedly revived vinyl. When it came out in 1972 it was far and away the best turntable ever made. It continues to be one of the best today.

I have an Ikemi and it is wonderful. But I got into vinyl about a year ago and I was wowed. $3000 on speakers and $2000 on an amp will certainly improve your system. But $5000 (or even less) on an LP12 and cartridge will blow you away.
