Wow ... Primaluna and Cornwalls! I wish I could hear them. My basement system has just been updated with Cornwall IIs and I am running them with Jolida 302crc. Sounds good but I need and am using subs for my listening room in the basement. It took some work to get sn articulate bass and nearly seemless integration between subs and Cornwalls. But I think I am there
How do you find bass response? Would love to see pictures!

System edited: I've had several changes over the past few years.

Actually you have a pretty nice system. I bet it sounds good!

Not cheap, smart. I love that system, I have always loved the sound of those Klipsch, and the Prima Luna stuff is stellar. If you are a rock music lover, I don't think it gets any better than that.

Great stuff.

macdadtexas

I'm cheaper and it show too. See my LP system. Your system is great by comparison.

Very nice system. I'll bet the Klipsch really can sing. Those Dynaco amps are classics!

Synthfreek checkout 480East. A couple of cats out of toronto blends sampled sounds with really good music.

Nice rig.

I'm cheap too...nice system but IMHO, if it were me and I had those nice super efficient Cornwalls, I'd put a nice inexpensive SE or low powered PP triode amp on them and then you'll hear how really good those speakers can be.

For what you can get for the ST-70, you can get a very nice homebrew amp on ebay...check out the moded Conn organ amps, they are awesome...I had one for about 3 yrs, best amp I've ever owned and I've had a sT-70, Mac 225, cj MV50 and Music Reference RM-9...I also have a Rega planar 3 and used to have an AMC cd player too...enjoy, Louis

WOW! I am cheap too. How do the Cornwalls sound? Ironically I also have a Counterpoint SA 3.1 with a pair of ST 70's in a mono configuration for mids and highs and an Adcom 100 WPC for the lows. I have been wondering if I should change my B&W DM 604's after I change my digital (CEC CD 2100).

Very nice. I really like your pairing of the Counterpoint/Dynaco.

System edited: Well I finally scored a mint set of 1979 Klipsch Cornwall speakers. Next upgrade will either be a pair of Mcintosh MC-30 monoblocks to replace the ST-70 or a pair of budget SET monoblocks. I'd want to audition first to see if they suit my listening tastes.

A budy of mine pushes his modified Dynaco with an older model Audible Illusions. Friggen great sounding system with a variety of speakers I've heard it with over the years. Brilliant choices Synthfreek. Best current production EL-34's for least $ in my opinion are the Electro Harmonix or JJ Tesla's. Svets are too cold and analytical to my ears and in my gear, Sovteks just plain suck. Love older Klipsch speakers (those designed by PWK) but have not liked any of the newer stuff I've heard. Best speakers I've heard paired off with my buddies system were the old Quad ESL57's on original stands. Now that was a very memorable sound. It just enveloped you with warmth and beauty. Colored? Absolutely! But the coloration was marvelous in every which way! Anyway, congrats on a well put-together system!

try b&w cdm series speaker and itt'll sure improve a lot

Cheap but wise! Good system. Change it with caution.

I had cornwalls for a long time. You really don't need any larger in the klipsch line. They will go as low as you could ever want. Quite efficient too. I would change the EL34s though. You can pick up a quad of Svetlana's for about $50 (upscaleaudio.com). They will improve the dynamics and upper frequency clarity a lot more than new cables. Also, what kind of 12ax7's are you using? You may want to change them also to get a softer, cleaner sound.

My next goal is to acquire a pair of Cornwalls for 2-channel listening and moving my KGs over to exclusive home theater use. The caps have been replaced this past year. Just your typical Sovtek EL34 tubes along with some Sylvania NOS 7199s and an acient Ken-Ray rectifier. Thanks for the positive comments! I do love my current speakers as they match well to my listening tastes(weird/eclectic to say the least). I listen to a lot of ambient electronic music such as Michael Stearns, Steve Roach, Pete Namlook, Lustmord & Robert Rich. Some of this stuff goes down to below the threshold of human hearing(5hz for Lustmord) so efficient Klipsch/tube amplification(not SET) is probably best for me. I was toying with the idea of maybe some Lascalas or Belles with a dedicated sub for anything under 60hz or so but...

synthfreek

I'd be happy with that. 2 suggestions: NEW SPEAKERS would be amazing. Also, there are some very minor mods that can be done to the dynacos depending on your tubes. You can have a tech eliminate the caps that were originally installed to eliminate hiss. Your amp probably is limited to 16khz or so.

Sounds like a system I can live with at a fraction of what I spent on my system. You are a genius.

viggen

Can't agree. Too many audiophile speakers are wimpy and ineffecient. If your taste runs to full on orchestral or rock then your speakers will be more attuned to your biases than many sacred cows. I think that the Dyna is the candidate for upgrade; just my 2 cents.

viridian

Just think how much better it's going to sound when you get a halfway decent pair of spwakers.

infinitebaffle

You have a well matched system and it shows!
