As you can see some components of these system are quite mature, I do want to upgrade to be able to use SACD & DVD-A formats and I would like to get better Preamp/Processor and use Classe' Balanced inputs.I used to have ADCOM - 565 for Front Speakers and Apogee Centaur Minor for SS, but I changed it. I want to get smaller Classe for Center & SS Speaker to have better system match and Universal SACD/DVD/DVD-A player.
For all my stereo only application I would continue use SFCD-1.
Hi, Muralman. Again, I did not read my treads for a while. Sorry for late response. I already sold my SF player. I want to get Universal CD Player with SACD and DVD-A. SF did not read some of my CDs and I don't have any home grown CDs. But it doesn't matter anymore. Thank you again, Evelyn
Hi Sharp, anybody who knows the problem isn't with their Apogees is a friend of mine. I put all my money into amps, because, as you know, Scintillas work with very few fire breathers. Everything else I got mostly on the cheap. I use a Jolida 100 with triple mica black plate tubes, a used Aleph P pre, and Kimber. The amps are used Pass Labs X600 mono blocks. The way I figure, there are a lot of people who spend more than I did for my amps on speakers that are not comparable to the Scintilla. So I come out ahead (IMO). My entire outlay has been 11.5k.
The Aleph P uses a separate single ended stage for each function. It runs passive, unless one chooses to use the gain option. It is a nifty pre, and very clean. I would go for it over Krell.
Hi, Muralman1 I did not check my site, sorry did not responded quicker. Scintilla is my dream speakers after I heard them in 1989. But with my limited budget could not afford them. Since that time every time I had an opportunity to talk to Jason Bloom at CES shows (Chicago & Las Vegas), I inquired about all new at the time models to see what can be acceptable for me and when I heard Majors, that was it, specially because I could use Adcom monos for bi-wire. So, enough history. At present time (again, with limited budget) I try to improve my system for SACD. I like Classe, specificly after Adcom. It such big difference in the sound. Now I hooked up 2 Classe 10 in mono mode (bi-wired) to Majors, Bought DR 8 for Cassiopea (SS Speakers), need one more Classe 10 for Center. About SFCD-1. Sounds wounderfull with my audiphile collection, but not read all my CDs, so, I have to use Pioneer Elite for them. In generally I used Elite only for laser discs, since I have very nice collection and only used it as CD player, when I sold my CAL 10 transport and DAC and did not have yet better CD Player. I think my current Fosgate 3A, which I use also as pre-amp is not good enough. I try to figure out what I need to buy (used, of course): passive pre-amp, possibly Placette, active - Krell KRC-3 (I need 5.1 pass for SACD) or? Do you have any recommendations? Ref: Interconnects: For Majors/Amps I use Straight Wire (red) interconnects, MIT I used only for SS Speakers and Kimber for Center Speaker. Apogees to Amplifiers only SYMO, which I bought directly from Apogees, at the time. Between sources I use Audioquest and Canare. I may think to upgrade some cables only I finish with all other equipment (again, the budget)
I've owned several Apogees. Presently I am using the Apogee Scintilla.
You've done well with your theater system. I haven't even heard some of those Aps. I like the SF cd player. There is not any sense to upgrade here. How do you like the Elite compared to the SF?
I use Kimber throughout, and have had no good experience with MIT and Apogee.
Classe is great. You may consider the Pass Labs X150.
