Description

This is my college dorm system. It sounds great, especially on my current budget. I'm hoping to upgrade my speakers in the near future, but keeping a vintage feel with a set of Rogers LS3/5a's (maybe my dads). Cabling is Monster all around, but I'm gonna try out the power cord come speaker cable (as described in TAS) sometime in the near future. I'll post pictures when I finnish with the amp and pre-amp cases.

Nice CD player that a read good things about. Sounds great for the low price
    • Citation Citation-11
I got this and its sister Citation 12 amp for free from my colleges music department. The both look and sound great. I'm currently making custom wood cases for both and i'll post pics when I'm done
    • Citation Citation-12
The sister amp to the Citation 11, looks and sounds great for the age and price I paid (nothing).
    • Pioneer CS-99a
I picked these up at a garage sale for $20. In good condition, if a little dusty. All the woofers are in great condition and sound like new. The wood lattice work on the grills looks beautiful.

thanks for the suggestions. I have a set of Advent clone speakers at home made by a company called APL out of Atlanta. The surrounds need to be redone, so that another thing in the pipeline. I listen to a very eclectic range of music, from indie rock to classical. The LS3/5a is not the most bass heavy speaker for rock, but i fell in love with their sound, having grown up listening to a set (one of the advantages to having a father who used to sell hi-fi equipment), and they will sound better in a smaller dorm room. I'll look into the op-amp, and I'm also planning on purchasing some dampening material.

Nice setup. As long as you're considering upgrades, I'd recommend replacing the opamps in the CD-25. I bought the AD 8066 opamps that are part of a more extensive upgrade from these folks:
http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1091901625
and did the installation myself.

It's a 15 minute plug-and-play operation. Cost of the two new opamps was $54 and it's the most cost-effective upgrade I've ever done to a component. The only thing you have to be careful about is the proper pin orientation when plugging in the opamps but that's easy to manage by looking at the picture in their ad. While I had the case open I added vibration dampening material everywhere I could inside the case but can't tell you how much difference that made relative to the opamps.

I'd agree that a speaker upgrade should be your highest priority but the opamp upgrade makes the already-great CD-25 dramatically better, especially in rendering detail in the bass.

Good luck.
