Description

Here is my humble system. I have put off any major upgrades until I upgrade to a house where I can put speakers on the floor. I find myself spinning more and more vinyl. I have a Dual CS-714Q in the works that I will test against my tweaked SL-1200mk2. Any comments?

    • Akai X-200D
A nice performer. My son loves watching the reels spin.
    • Quad ESL-63
I have lusted for these (and Apogees) for a couple of decades. Bought these in very good condition for USD 1000. By far the most expensive item in my system. I guess I am a speaker first guy.
    • Quad 303
    Nice compact no-fuss power amp.
    • Technics EPC 300 MC
Low low output MC (0.1 mV). Very detailed but lacking in bass.
    • Technics SU-300MC
Battery powered step-up amplifier. Very quiet.

Update: I have upgraded my house and I am surprised at the improvement in sound that $400 000++ can bring! Seriously, now I have space for the Quad ESL-63 (I never managed to fit them into a bookshelf...) in a semi-dedicated room in the basement. The room has wall-to-wall carpeting and wooden panels on the wall, which - I believe - is really good acoustically.
