Looks great, though I have to agree with a few other guys, you should move your speakers onto stands. Not just to get them better placed, but you've got them on the same surface as you turntable. All the bass from you speakers is being transmitted into your front end--you'll be truly shocked at how much better everything will get. I had a PF-800 for years, it's a nice piece, and beautiful. the NAD sounds pretty good but it has issues and wont play things. You have to use the remote to stop it and then try to replay it. So now I am back in the CD player market.
I am thinking either the Cambridge audio 640c or Music hall MMF25.2. they are in my price range and both have great reviews. Any opinions....
thanks charlie and rwwear, for your help I will do that. I have the speakers pulled out as far as they go on the shelves. I know its good to get em away from the wall. I just hate to have stands taking up space in the living room but that a good idea to mark the floor.
And yes I totally understand the upgrade virus. Its a viscious circle of spending to get to the ultimate stereo.
I also need to listen to a bunch of systems and pick a limit (impossible) to what I want to spend.
Rwwear hit the nail right on the head. Your speaker place- ment is suffocateing any attributes, or abilaties your gear has to perform, no matter how modest it may be.
Put your speakers on a good pair of stands and experiment with placement, this will give the music a chance to open up and stretch out, and create an image.
Once you find the best placement, you can mark the location with small pieces of tape should you need to move the stands back out of the way.
I think you will be very surprised at what you have been missing with your speaks up on a shelf, and their backs against the wall.
The only danger involved here is that you may become infec- ted with the upgrade virus. As you may know, there is no cure for this virus, only the continued spending that only serves to put off your inevetable demise.
A big improvement would be to get some stands and move the speakers out into the room some. This would make a big difference without spending a lot of money. If they are in the way, you can move them against the cabinet when they are not being used.
I wont tell anyone. But yes, that is a little nerdy but look at me doing the same thing. Yeah, I need to do some research. I just am tired of having so many components laying around but I guess a phono stage aint too big. I will look into those two. I havent even looked into tube stuff. but I guess I should.
SWEET!!!! ain't it fun. I know i'm always suggesting stuff, but i've read a bunch of good stuff about the "gram amp" its a 250 dollar phono stage that doesn't take up alot of space or cash, then you could find any amp that suits your taste and not worry about the quality, or existence of the internal stage. and also there's the antique sound lab mini phono, and it's tube! i like tubes. i really am a nerd aren't i, writing this crap at 10:30 in the morning. now you really know what i do with my days. don't tell anyone.
My record player is pretty good for a yamaha. I think I am gonna get a new MM cartridge (have a 40 buck Audio technica). Any recomendations (100-200 buck range)? I have looked at the lower end Arcam and Rotel. And personally like the Arcam better. But thats really all I have looked at. There seems to be alot to choose from. I dont know if I want to go with a built in Phono stage or not. I kinda want to go built in just to eliminate some of the equipment.
