NEW UPDATES AS OF January 30 2015!

This is my modest well thought out A/V system. Most of the gear was purchased brand new but also some good used deals. I use it for t.v. watching, some movie watching and music at that vinyl playback oh 80% of the time. CD's and cassettes the other 20%. I use my cassette decks to transfer LP's onto tapes to preserve them with another analogue copy. But I have copied some of my CD's to tape to help warm up some of those bright sounding CD's.

For home theatre I have now taken the Blu-ray plunge and added the Oppo BDP-83 to my setup. FABULOUS MACHINE, not only does it play Blu-rays well but upscales DVD's beautifully, and is to my ears in my system a great CD player. It also will play SACD and DVD-A of which I have none but now have the option to play in future.

I have really made changes to the surround aspect of my setup. Going back to a A/V receiver from Yamaha HT-R6190 (same as RX-V1800) which has all the new surround CODEC's, and the traditional gimmicky Yamaha ones too. I use it in 5.1 mode. Its fidelity for both surround and good old stereo (for music) playback is quite enjoyable.

Main t.v is a 60 inch Sharp Aquos. Good all around unit though I do miss my front projection set up that I had before. But the Sharp is much better for day time viewing.

My new a/v room is a quaint but narrow to set it up, well enough with a sofa, the chair is a cheap seat LOL. But it is set up the best I can as you see it here.

Vinyl playback has me going back to a true classic and great turntable, JVC QL-Y5F with a Shure M-97xe cartridge now.

Cassettes tapes are played back via either my always coveted by me JVC DD-VR9 I recently added two other great classics from JVC ( circa 1980) KD-A77 was the TOTL 3 head from 1980. Added a Yamaha K-1000 upper end DBX equipped 3 head machine. Looks cool.

Also aded a Soy CDP-CX355 300 Disc Juke Box. My CD's do not get much play, but now all loaded in my mega changer and using its optical digital out I get better DAC through my Yamaha AVR. CD's sound good, even though Im more a vinyl LP fan. Having all my CD's so easily at hand though is nice.

My main speakers are my excellent Paradim Studio 20v4 for fronts, a Paradigm CC-190 for Centre and Paradigm Titans for surrounds. Add a Paradigm DSP-3100 10 inch powered sub for sub bass.

I have some room treatments with some DIY panels. fabric covered over acoustic insulation panels hung on my rear wall to tame rear wall echo but not kill all liveliness. Plus a panel on a main reflective point on a side wall and two more behind front speakers.

My room setup with furniture does not allow me to make big ones but a I figure something is better than nothing.

It all works quite well improving imaging especially centre staging and bass boom making my bass for both music and movies more natural and pleasant. Though far from what likely a certified tech may do, I have come to grasp that room treatments are one of the best things a user can do to get better sound.

Well that's it for now but like most here it's always a system in change as time may pass, but I'm happy with it now.

System edited: Changes made as per Sept. 21 2014. I am very pleased with the overall system, cool vintage gear and very good performing gear. For analogue stereo a nice set up. For 5.1 surround a nice HT for my purposes. All reasonably priced and IMO nicely balanced. I'm a hifi / av buff, not an indoctrinated audiophile.

I find that recording LP's onto a CDR through my Pioneer PDR-555RW sound generally good. When comparing a title off LP onto a CDR to a commercially made one that I may have, I find the CDR from vinyl sounds better. That said my PDR-555RW is a dated unit and I am told stand alone CD recorders that are of good repute today perform better. My plan is to upgrade my CDR in time.

All this being said I have made some changes to my system and when I have time to make good new photos I will update the listed system here.

Very balanced system. Beautiful amp. Neat that you put you LP's on CD for you car. How do they sound?
