Description

This is my main listening system which started coming together a few years ago when the Acoustat 1+1's shipped to me. Previously had just lusted after dipolar electrostats for decades. The Acoustats are very transparent, play very loud, play very sweetly, rock, create incredibly deep spacious and lifesized sound images with the aid of Krell Class A amplification. Total frequency response with true subwoofers and supertweeters, response corrected with Tact EQ and Behringer crossover over with 48dB slopes. Enjoy advanced resolution discs by converting them to 24bit/96Khz with PAD-1 for processing by room eq and crossover.

Components Toggle details

    • Acoustat 1+1 Red Medallion
1+1 electrostatic monitors with Red Medallion interfaces
    • SVS PB-13 (x2)
13" self-powered 3 port 1000W subs in wood finished boxes.
    • Elac CL 4 PI Plus (x 2)
    Omnidirectional ribbon supertweeters
    • Parasound HCA-1500a
Midrange amplifier for Acoustats temporarily replacing Krell. Works very well, no shutdowns, though I think Krell sounded slightly better.
    • Tact Audio RCS-2.0
Fully loaded room control system equalizer with analog and digital I/O. Includes additional parametric EQ.
    • Behringer DCX 2496
6 Way Digital Crossover 24 bit 96 Khz with delays and parametric EQ
    • Sonos Zoneplayer 80
Wired home music system with wireless controllers, files stored in AIFF on 500G drive.
    • Oppo BDP-95
Universal disc player, used mainly for SACD, DVD-Audio, and HDCD
    • Denon 5900
DVD-Video/Audio/CD/SACD/HDCD Player with separate audio power supply
    • Acurus A-250
250W amplifier used for Elac supertweeters
    • Lavry AD10
Analog to digital converter used to input analog sources, currently used on Oppo BDP-95 with balanced connection (!)
    • MSB Technology PAD-1
AD converter used to convert high resolution audio disc sources to 24bit/96Khz for Digital Room EQ and crossover. PAD-1 is a better ADC than the one built into Tact RCS 2.0.
    • Kenwood KT-6040
One of the last truly great FM tuners from Kenwood, featuring GaAsFet front end, and LA3450 mpx decoder. 220V powered by Hammond transformer voltage adapter.
    • Belkin PureAV AVU 1500
Power conditioning UPS. Has excellent ac filters and sinewave backup power.
    • Sony XDR-F1HD (RadioXTuners)
Digital IF Tuner with analog-only switch (the way I use it) and full output filter replacement and other mods by RadioXTuners. Good sounding, and always quiet, but not as musical as Kenwood KT-6040.
    • Nakamichi RX-505
Nakamichi's best affordable auto-reversing cassette deck flips the tape over. Solid dual capstan drive.
    • Krell FPB-300
Plays Acoustats extremely well. Currently offline waiting to be sent for service.

Hello Chuck,

Are you still using the Acoustats and the Krell? If you've moved on to something else, would it be other 'stats, or cones?
