Description

Ive been through many amps and speakers but i like what this system does. Very good on vocals and jazz; but i listen to everything but rap...will work on more room treatments..just got the Khartagos not bad but not as nice as my Mccormack REV B amp..i'll keep it.

Yes I did replace RC network with Dueland, I feel it does sound better but not night and day. But I do enjoy the Merlins still.

Hi Ryriken,

System looks great!

Did you receive plans for the Merlin Duelund R/C update or did you replace with comparable values? Care to comment on how the TSM's sound with the updates?

Ryriken,

I have long admired Merlin speakers, but they've always been a bit out of my price range, 'though I'd love to have a pair. You mentioned on another thread that you once owned VAC amps. I bought mine on A'gon for the sum of $1200. I wasn't very impressed with it until I swapped out all the tubes. NOS Telefunken 12AU7's and 12AT7's, along with Mullard reissue EL34's, branded Groove Tube. Now, it's my favoite amp of the three I have now.

I've read very good things about Odyessy Khartago amps, and with that VTL preamp, and those Merlin's, your system must sound incredible.

Congratulations, and enjoy!

Ryriken,

I suspect we have similar taste. Much of your equipment I have considered for my system. Merlin has a similar big sound to my Dynaudios. I considered Odyssey amps before pulling the trigger on my Bryston. And the Caspian CDP is superb. Very nice rig! :)

I bumped into some Soundcare spikes which fit absolutely perfect. Thnx for the advice though!

Go on Audiogon..sometimes people sell them .a lot of places sell them..just google BDR Racing Cones...i'm sure some place to buy them shoes up..if you get them buy the metal srew in inserts..they will screw into the bottom of the apogees like a spike...but better,,at least to me...

ryriken

Thanks Ryriken, where did you get these cones? Any pics?

Believe it or not i use BDR Racing cones under the speakers...expensive but i thought it sounded much better Get the inserts they screw right into the bottom of the speaker...

Hi Punisher, I also own the majors and am very impressed at what they can do. Just wondering: are you using spikes under your Majors? If so, which spikes and where did you get them?
Thnx in advance, Satch.

Interesting to see that you have the same set up as me in many respects. What have you done latley? Did you keep the monos or move on? Please take a look at my modest system and make any suggestions.

My thoughts are its a nice pre-amp...has HT bypass two outs and not too hard on the tubes..i've had it 2 years with no problems..there are some nice write ups on this pre-amp..

ryriken

nice system, what are your thoughts on your VTL TL 5.5 ?
