Description

Don't get me wrong. I love home theater-FOR MOVIES. But when I want to listen to music, this is where I go. I get everything from 16/44 redbook I think I could ask for from my upstream components. The Perpetual Technologies units with the Modwright upgrades are incredible. I can't wait for SOCS to include the Peregrine speaker correction. I see myself stepping up to a true multi format transport once the format wars are over. Call me an optimist, but I think the DVD forum will accept SACD into its standards. Until then, I'll get by just fine with the Wadia Model 8 Transport. Built like a tank and virtually impervious to vibration. Tracks Cd's like a champ and reveals the details as well as can be expected from the medium. Forget the questionable press you may have read about Talon Audio. They are most assuredly "FOR REAL". The Peregrines simply present my favorite music in as natural a way as I've heard from any speakers in this price range. AND THEN SOME. For so called monitors, they plumb the bottom with the best of em', and I never considered it a compromise that I couldn't use the Khoruses. Perhaps a sub one day, but only if it can integrate well, doesn't cost a fortune and can do these speakers the justice they truly deserve. The preamp and amplifier are the real cornerstones of this system. Let's face it: with this affliction, upgrades are always on the backs of our minds. Not so with the Electrocompaniet rig. The preamp is one of the all time steals in audio today and the amp is incredible. Class A headroom galore. It's as if you can raise the volume forever, and the Talons can take it exceptionally well. Detail remains intact regardless of volume. Low or high listening levels don't matter. The resolution remains. The Nottingham Spacedeck with Space tonearm was the logical choice in turntables for me. Isolation was excellent before I added two glass plinths. Now it is exceptional with their addition. Gotta love your local glass cutters! Definetly the conversation piece of the system! It's amazing how low level vibration can affect sound quality. In concert with my Benz Micro Ace , vinyl has simply never sounded better, and I am buying much more vinyl now because of it. My friends always remark about how silent the backround is while listening to vinyl. Of course, the silence helps to increase the perception of dynamic range while listening to this medium. The EC phono preamp is obviously the perfect match for this set-up, and with certain records, it surpasses the digital rig in some respects. Mind you, it is neck and neck. I've waited a long time to get to this stage of this hobby, and I'm lovin' every minute of it! Come on now people, throw me a frickin' bone here! I'd like to know what you think.
