I am considering getting a pair of 20.1's and am wondering how they would work with a sub augmenting the bass. Is the Velodyne fast enough to keep up with the speed of the maggies?

System edited: Velodyne DD-18 added. Unpossible to locate this sub in the room by ear. Maggies with kick drum in your chest bass now.

Very nice system. And, the benefits of having a dedicated listening space can't be overstated -- one where things can be placed where they want to be vs. where they need to be to coexist with other things. Regarding subs, I've achieved exceptional results using a pair of Vandersteen 2Wq's together with my MG 3.5Rs. They are running in balanced mode and take their inputs from the amplifier output. I purchased Vandersteen's optional high-pass filters (which are highly configurable) and have been unable to improve on the recommended setup. My system is a few pages back in this section and is under the heading "Sanctum Sanctorum".

The room is 15'x20' with 9.5' ceilings. Not perfect ratio, but not far off. All plaster/lath construction, hardwood floor.

The sunfire is my current frustration in setting the room up. I'm using RCA in, and find that the gain is not easy to set correctly. Also, the built in amp shuts during quiet passages only to resume with and audible mild thump when volume returns.

Maybe this is all different if I run speaker level inputs? I'm tempted to open it and increase the off time delay, or just bypass it and wire an on/off switch.

Congrats on a very nice system. The 20.1s will eventually be my last speakers. If properly set up and configured, your Sunfire sub will produce fast, tuneful and well defined bass. You need to keep it away from room boundaries; turn the volume down and adjust the phase control by tiny amounts. I have been able to obtain virtually seamless blending with my MG 3.5. But as you are aware it requires a lot of experimentation and effort

System edited: HUGE upgrade, I bought a new place with a room I setup as dedicated listening room. I've added a dozen bass traps, and corner traps, and heavy padding under my favorite rug.
