hey hooper and milkman, sorry it took me so long to reply, i haven't tried the speakers without the cages, actually i haven't had a chance to really set them up properly so i could start enjoying them, but i'm getting everything ready, so it'll be soon, i'll post some pics when i'm done.

If you asking about the DAC that i use with the 969, i use the Burmester 970 SRC DAC. I don't think it was available as a choice when i first posted my system. I just purchased a Billy Bags audio rack, and when i get everthing set up, i will post some pics. Thanks for all the responses guys.

Where is the DA?

I heard my friend's MBL's with and without the cages, and getting rid of them made a startling difference. I heard that metallic quality, too, and ditching the cages eliminated it. He now listens exclusively without them and couldn't be happier.

Readster--

Have you done any comparisons of the MBL speakers with and without the metal cage? When I heard them at CES two years ago I couldn't get over the metallic-quality that midrange seemed to have, although the bass was amazingly impressive. I read a JA review, I believe, where he removed the cages and got rid of that sound. Have you had the same sort of experience?

Thanks Hooper, The 956 puts out 240w per ch. @ 4ohms. i'm not sure about the efficiency, i'll have to check that out and let you know.

VERY nice system, Readster! You must be in, or near, sonic nirvana. My friend owns the top-of-the-line MBL speakers, and he's overwhelmed by them. I've only heard them once, but they definitely left a lasting impression. Just out of curiosity, how many watts does the 956 put out, and what's the efficiency of the 101s? Again, cool rig!
