No, i was kind of waiting to see what you found out and just got lazy. Im enjoying my system so much more now that i just sit down and listen. I will hold off on the tweaking until im familiar with my new gear. Maybe sometime next week i will swing by the hardware store and pick a few up, i doubt it though if the Bryston comes in.

I only tried one nylon plate. I decided to keep it there. Did you try any yet?

tpaxadpom

Did you try the different outlet plates? Just curious on your findings.

jlind325is

Im going to remove my outlet plate this weekend, i will let you know if i hear a difference.

You should check out Mapleshades jazz selection. I have a few of their cds and two jazz-blues compelations. All their cds are recorded and then put on the disc. they dont electronically do anything to the recordings and you can hear it. the energy and emotion really comes through and the sonics are impressive. During some passages you can hear a chair sqeak as it is moved on the floor from someone in the audience at the club it was recorded in. i cant say enough about their cds. I thought i would be getting a motorcycle sooner but i am kind of debating it now, so to answer your question, probably not soon. sorry. audio is taking priority right now, i keep thinking waht i could buy instead of the bike. Mcintosh gear, or a Cary tube amp or this or that. im torn damn it!

Justin, I mostly listen to jazz. From Miles Davis to George Benson, from Crusaders to Al Jarreau. I like new age as well. From time to time I listen to pop and R&B. I don't mind listen to techno in the car.
As far as your cable goes. It has to be at least 2m long. Are you going to be in Portland area some time soon?

tpaxadpom

im going to sell my digital link since i can get a dedicated video cable and relinquish some funds for some software. Are you interested? i know you wanted to demo it but its time for me to get rid of it. speaking of cds, whats been hogging you system? ive been listening to tons of Tool, and my new Dire Straits is getting alot of time too. I realy enjoy Bjork and all my cds from Mapleshade have been doing their fair share of time in the Denon. Just curious what your tastes are. Tommorrow im picking up my Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon on SACD. Cant wait to hear that!!

jlind325is

I will try that. Placebo effect or not, if its sounds better(without scientific proof) then it is an improvement. i got me cables and couldnt be happier. i will post pics and my initial feelings tonight.

I haven't done any serious research on line conditioners yet. I don't have any local dealers for Hydra product :o(.
You might think I'm crazy, but I read about effect of the wall plate (receptacle cover)yesterday and tried it in my system
http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ymisc&1134929736&read&keyw&zzwall+plate . It does make a difference! You should try it. Just take it off and see if you can hear any difference.

I am curious to hear my power cables as well. I thought they would come in today but they will be here Monday. Bummer!! i had a buddy from high school stop by last night for a listen. He plays guitar and drums and loves to listen to music. He is going to college and is dead broke so his "system" is his laptop. When he left he told me that this was the best music he has heard outside of live music. That put a huge smile on my face, i think i might have "doomed" another soul into a life of hifi.(although my setup is nowhere near hifi!!) I say doomed in the best way possible, because as we all know once you start you cant stop. He will be stopping by later next week, i will see if he hears a difference. I hope he does!

Nope, he hasn't post it yet. He wants to add multi-channel to his current 2-channel system. I wouldn't expect him to post any pictures until he completes his multi-channel project.
I'll be curious to hear your comments on power cables.

tpaxadpom

I posted pics of my gear. My power cables should be here before the weekend, I hope. i will keep you informed. Has you friend posted his gear yet?

jlind325is

i just put my system up on here. I titled it Pure Enjoyment! No pics but will hopefully add them soon when i get a digital camera. Just thought you might want to check it out. Happy Holidays Justin

i probaly wont be south for at least a month. I have a little over 30 hours on the kimber right now and am liking them more everytime i listen. I am excited to hear them when they are around 100 hours. I am hopefully getting my PS Audio upc-200 with humbuster on friday, i have their ultimat outlet and love it but i am still getting a lot of hum. Hopefully it will cure my problem. if everything goes well i will be having one hell of a weekend!

Justin,
my friends room is not on audiogon yet. I'll try to make it happen though.
I'm glad you like your new speaker cables. Let me know if you'll be in Portland area.

tpaxadpom

If i ever go South i will definetly let you know. I am looking at buying a motorcycle in oregon so i could kill two birds with one stone. Is your friends room on Audiogon? Last night i compared my new kimber 8pr to my old monster and was very impressed. I was hearing alot more detail in all aspects and a huge jump in micro detail. The cables sound a little restricted right now but they only have about two hours on them so i expect them to "loosen" up in a week or two. I am not familiar with the Marigo Apparition so i have no comments on them.

jlind325is

Owner
Justin, stop by if you will be in Portland. Don't forget to bring your digital cable :o).
From what I've heard so far I liked Marigo Apparition the best. Apparition 2 was the most transparent cable, but 5.7 is more forgiving/laid back on bright cd's.
I just came from my friends house. He finally finished his dedicated room. It is sooo nice...

tpaxadpom

Congrats on the option of building a home!! i actually work at a architectural firm in Washington State. Drawings houses pays the bills for me. I drool over Mike Lavignes room everyday. That is my dream setup. Thanks for the heads up on the audioquest junk. I am a Transparent guy so when i move into a dedicated room i will drop the bucks on some nice speaker cable. I have Transparents premium digital link and really liked it but i am using their Plus interconnects right now. I think their is somthing missing with the digital link when comparing it to the Plus' but that was to be expected. The digital link goes for around 150 used so it is really affordable. Justin

I will start looking for a house next year. I might end up building one. So I can not comment on the room size yet.
I've been in the hobby throughout my childhood. I graduated about couple of years ago and this is how far I managed to get. I think I'm pretty much done except for some minor changes that should make a big difference. First I'm looking for good digital cable for my DAC. Second I want to tri-wire my speakers, so I think it's going to be Monster M2.2. I might get another rack as well.
I did compare the speaker wires before I bought them. I liked M2.4a, but I like even more the price I could purchase them for (I've got accomoddation deal when I work at retail). I am not a big fan of their analog interconnects, which I always have plenty laying around for my video components. BTW AudioQuest was the worst exerience with analog and digital interconnects I've ever had in my system.

tpaxadpom

What size are you planning on? Are you building it or moving into an existing room? I also use a blanket over my TV during listening. A very very cost effective tweak for sure. How long have you been in the hobby? i have been in it for about 4 years now and just recently was able to build my starter system. Did you compare your monster speaker cables with anything before purchasing? Somtime this week i will be terminating some kimber i just got and will be comparing it against my bottom of the barrell monster. Justin

jlind325is

Owner
Justin, I plan to have my dedicated room next year. As a temporary fix I cover my TV with a blanket when I do some serious listening.

tpaxadpom

It can be hard not to give up on placement when you have a giant brick between your speakers but your perserverance has paid off. Are you moving into a dedicated room soon? i have to have mine two close to the rear wall so i get a somewhat boomy bass, but the soundstage and depth i get is worth the trade off. i hope to be in a dedicated room within a year. I am so jealous of the people who dont have to "live" around their gear.

jlind325is

Owner
Justin thanks a lot for suggestion. In fact I did play a lot with speaker placement. I learned that moving speakers by quarter of an inch can make a dramatic difference. I found this particular location to be the best trade of between depth of sound field and bass response in my room. The place where I sit is about 1 - 1.5 ft away from the back wall.

tpaxadpom

You should try pulling your speaks out towards you. You will get a much better sound stage with increased depth as well. I am stuck with a tv(not nearly as large as yours) between my speaks and couldnt beleive the difference six inches made. Dont we all wish we had a dedicated room!!!! Happy listening, Justin
