so i finally had an evening to complete the installation of the 2nd 20 amp line...very pleased...noisefloor lowered signifigantly...kind of opened things up a bit more. For less than 100 bucks, great investment...shame on those who spend 3-4 figures on power cords and dont have a dedicated line...

Has anyone here experimented with treating the line itself? I was just wondering if altering the jacket of the (Romex, say) would be an attribute. Specifically- wrapping teflon plumber's tape along the entire length of the line and terminating prior to the panel and outlet. Anyone tried something like that??

Sgr thanks for your suggestion..only challange is my main service panel is running out of capacity/space. How often should i use the pro gold spray on my contacts th

Do your system a favor and in your spare time run a separate line for each component. You'll be surprised what the benefits to your system will be sonically. You wouldn't have to do this all at once but I predict each time you'll notice a profound difference in the quietness, blackness, detail, soundstaging, and dynamics in your system. You'll have to wait until each line breaks in to hear the full scope of your labor. I have 16 "homeruns" for my system and it sure was a pain to wire, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Don't forget to have a dedicateed copper earthg grounding system. And then if you want that really to work, water the area the copper ground rod is and your noise floor will decrease further. Be sure to separate the digital from all your other lines too. Clean all contacts with Caig ProGold or similar treatment as you go.
    Hope this helps.

where do you run all the seperate outside earth grounding rods with that many seperate dedicated lines ????

Yes, I have several systems, including Linn and Naim. I have both power supplies and the pleasure of compairing them.

i agree with newmanoc regarding the lingo vs. the valhalla...cant see how the lingo is VERY noisy..id like to see your system squiddy? do you have one?

I should clarify - it is cerainly true a cheaply made switch mode power supply can be noisy. But this is not true of high quality switch mode supplies such as those used by Linn and Dynavector.

Although almost all modern Linn gear does utilize switch mode power supplies, I believe the Lingo is an exception. It most certainly does not need to be isolated from other equipment on its own circuit. As to the larger claim that switch mode power supplies are electronically noisy on a circuit, I am VERY skeptical. This sounds like the sort of nonsense a competing dealer would say to keep someone from buying a Linn product.

Naim makes the Armadeddon power supply for the LP 12 (not Linn), and it was to some ears an improvement over the old Linn Vahalla, but decidedly not over the Lingo. Even a Naim rep I know of readily admits the Armadeddon is not as good as the Lingo I, which itself is not as good as the newer, full-sized Lingo II.

The biggest difference that I found was with the first dedicated line, but now I have:

2 30amp breakers (one for each of my big Krell amps)
1 20amp breaker for my preamp and active x-over
1 15amp breaker for my SACD player

    It sounds good.

For the best results put the Lingo on it's own circuit. Believe it or not the lingo is VERY noisey. (Switch Mode Power Supply) Plugged in with the rest of your gear it WILL detract from the music, adding a haze. One must be very attentive to plugging in any Linn system becasue their switch mode power supplies. A better quieter solution for your LP12 power is thier Armageddon power supply. Much more musical and comes with none of the problems of the Lingo.

connections at panel are complete (easy part) fished wire and am about 6' from where im going to place the receptacle...i cant use the same hole that i used for the first line i ran (therr was already a hole for existing wired to run through this 2x6...now drillng new one and not having luck fishing all the way through..im working fiarly blind (in a closet ceiling)...pain in the neck...isnt it always the last few steps that are hard...heck the electrical stuff is simple..regardless, ill get it worked out, at a cost of 100 dollars..nice bang for buck upgrade

I must be a freak, I ran four dedicated 20 A lines plus two dedicated 15 A lines where I put my component rack... Figured I'd end up with mono blocks someday and they might do better all on there own STS!

    kennyt

    Jaf2290, that sounds logical.
Try it out and see if you can hear any difference.
Look for a quiet noise floor, in other words, turn up your volume with no music and listen for hum. The less the hum, the more music you will hear. Good luck.

heres a tough one..i have a linn unidisk sc, this is a universal disk player And a preamp... treat this as digital? make it easy for me...heres what im thinking.. lingo phono power supply, and linto phono pre amp, and peking tuner on once circuit, and power amp and unidisk sc on another circuit? did i get this reight or no? thank you both for you replies

    jaf2290

I agree with G m c. Seperate the digital from the analog components, and then the amps from the other analog pieces. If you're not done yet, go ahead and run that third line now!

    thsalmon

I have one 20A dedicated circuit for my amps and one dedicated 20A for my front end. I have a third 15A line for my Samsung DLP TV and Tivo. It seems to work for me. I am using Shunyata products for the amps and front end and a Ricard Gray RPC400 Pro for my av stuff.

I don't have any power issues now at all...

Some of us here have 5 or 6 dedicated lines. Yes, we are wacky.

Many here will agree that separating your digital sources from all other components would be important. The next level (when you add your 3rd line) could be to separate the amps from the analog sources and pre-amp. You could try these and other configurations and find the one you like the best.

    g_m_c

I'm not sure of the details of how much work it would be for you to run another line . Usually, if you are doing one, then adding a second at the same time isn't that much harder. If that is true in you case, then *definitely* add the second dedicated line.

Ideally, there should be one for amps and one for sources. This is what I have for my two channel system upstairs. In my basement which I just finished, I only put in one dedicated line for a possible home theater. I am really kicking myself over that short sightedness.
