Description

I recently moved up to the Simaudio P5LE (preamp) and got a nice improvement, but the purchase of a lifetime for me was a demo set of the Virtual Dynamics Revelation 2 speaker cables direct from manufacturer, with full warranty and generous trade-up policy, for 1/3 of retail. Although expensive, these cables have supplied the magic, heretofore missing, ingredient that this system has needed really to come alive. I am stunned and delighted beyond words.

If you're in the market for a truly outstanding cable, do yourself a huge favor and check out Virtual Dynamics. Super-friendly, helpful staff up there in Alberta, just a great group of people. It's been a pleasure dealing with them. The majority of my gear is now Canadian and what can I say, they build great stuff.

I knew in my heart what these Thiels were supposedly capable of, but up until now, the sound has been merely good, and it rankled me knowing what more these speakers were capable of. Well, the rest is history, because it's all there, baby, in glorious live color. Everyone who's heard this system swears it sounds absolutely live. I can't think of a better value for a speaker than the Thiel 7.2, a glorious-sounding set -- but only when every duck is in a row!! Short of princely associated equipment, it just ain't gonna happen, believe me. And of course you've read it so many times before in the audiophile press, but how true it is.

The only thing I'm really needing is a nice phono preamp so I can get back to enjoying my (massive) collection of vinyls.

Like many of us here on Audiogon, I'm a guy of limited means trying to get the best sound for my money. For me, Eggleston, Avalon, Wilson, Aerial 20T's, you know, Rockport, etc., just aren't in the budget. But I tell you true, I am loving life and am no longer pining for finer gear and wondering where my hi-fi sound is. This is as good as it needs to get for me, like permanently.

It's thanks almost entirely to Audiogon that I've gotten all my gear. The myriad forums, reviews, tips, as well as personal emails, have equipped me with the knowledge to achieve the sound I now enjoy. What a great site concept, and what a great group of people you all have turned out to be. My thanks go out to the whole A'gon community.

    • Classe Audio CA-400
This behemoth is truly a powerhouse, but it's by no means too much for the Thiels. I would dearly love to get a second one and run them bridged. Outstanding, reliable, inexpensive amp.
    • Classe Audio CDP-1
Nice deck. Dead quiet with balanced connects -- nice feature, that.
    • The Music Cable Truly Balanced
Super quiet, except visually: They're billious green! I like 'em, though. Super well-built and I get a LOT of high definition out of them.
    • Linn LP-12 Sondek
Inherited dad's 1980 Linn. It has Valhalla/Nirvana upgrades and Japanese Grace tonearm the Linns originally came with. A bit of a relic, but sounds great.
    • DCCA Power Wave I
This python-sized power cable lent a cleaner, quieter, slightly warmer sound to the system. I bought it as a demo for a great price.
    • Sim Audio Moon P-5LE
    Control amp and power supply
    • Thiel Audio CS-7.2
    Cherry
    • Virtual Dynamics Revelation 2
    Crowsfoot single-run

Hi-
I was wondering if I can pick your brain on advice for a system that I want to build. It seems that you have a system that I would like to use as my reference. Is this doable?
Thanks

Thanks, Sam. One of these days I'm going to have to get some photos posted. Cheers.

Hi Todds7,

I particularly agree with your final paragraph...thank you for posting your system.
