Description

Latest iteration of the home stereo. Banished the tubes in favor of quality solid state. Added in some spectacular new Magnepan 3.7 speakers. Still working on cables and the rack is still in the works, but other than that, I think we're "home" for now.

Good System Socrates, if U are a wise philosopher, as name implies, U won't take it too far from U'r heretofore simplistic approach to the hobby, with change after change with the audio 'bug. Now it's time too enjoy the music!!

Rhanson739 - Congrats! Enjoy!

To answer my own question above: Yes, the 3.7s *would* sound better, as I found at a local audio store.

They'll be here in three weeks!

Nice. And thanks for the link to the article on the 3.7s.

I'm working with an older, "legacy" pair of Maggie 3.3/R speakers. They belonged to my late father, but I had them overhauled in 2005. We love them, but... would the 3.7s sound even better, I wonder?

rhanson739

very nice system...respect the way you've assembled it. Long-term, high quality electronics...respect the Plinius stuff a lot, and the Maggie's are great as well. Enjoy!

sweet....Vinyl guy and no tube pre....something to think about? I miss my Magneplanar Tympani 1Ds to this day. They required too many square feet to come into their own.

Socrates, Very nice system! I have heard good things about WyWires with the 3.7's. Those are definitely on my list if I decide to move on from my Liquid Air audio magics. I have also wondered about using Plinius amps with the Maggies. Have you used other amps with your Maggies?

brownsfan

Your doing good man. System looks solid. Have ya figured your Cabels out. Synergistic research has the element Cabels. Some are not that expensive. The coppers are real real good. Can ya explains how the Maggie's are sounding. How many hours on em.

Tried out the new WyWires speaker cables (brand new "formulation") and they're unbelievable. Way more bass than Version 1, and with a nice, rich midrange too. Done! WyWires it is!

Nice!!!

I'm actually looking at WyWires cables right now. Tried out some Nordost Heimdall and liked them quite a bit, but they were unfortunately (and characteristically) lean through the mid-band even though the bass and treble were great. Cardas Clear was too rich in the mids and too rolled off on either extreme. Synergistic Apex (loaner, and way out of my price range) had Cardas-like richness with better extension. I'm hoping the new WyWires speaker cable has the bass I want without sacrificing the mids/treble.

Long story short: still looking.

Siltech looks great, but I can't afford the Classic 770i without serious discounting.

Still looking ....

socrates7

Sweet and simple--I like! Give Siltech a try, they worked very well when I had my MG20.1, and hearsay, a good match for Plinius too.. I believe Plinius uses some Siltech wiring inside. Enjoy.
