Description

My attempt at a 3-source, fairly compact, high resolution 2-channel system with practically unlimited output capability and wide-bandwidth performance. People talk about "source first!", but this system is really all about the speakers. I could switch in and out any number of quality sources and preamplification and cables with scarcely an impact on the overall character of the system. It's the Meyer Sound X-10T speakers that make this system an exceptional reproducer of every kind of music, from the most delicate acoustic chamber music to the heaviest electronic dub.

    CD/SACD transport

    Parametric EQ.
    • Meyer Sound Labs X-10T*

    • Meyer Sound Labs X-10T*
Tower version of the X-10 powered studio monitor. 23 Hz to 17 kHz +/- 2 dB. Long-term continuous output capability exceeds 125 dB. Two-way system with horn-loaded compression driver and servo-controlled 15-inch LF driver. Amcan Audio footers and 2.5 inch plywood/mdf platform under each speaker.
    • Audiosensibility Testament SE
2.5 metre XLR-terminated balanced interconnects (UP-OCC copper, shielded) for preamp to powered speakers. Shorter runs for DAC to preamp and tuner to preamp. Audiosensibility Impact SE cable for turntable to preamp.
    • Meyer Sound Labs n/a
Speakers are active, so whatever cables connect the internal power amplifiers to their respective drivers are both very short and invisible to the user.
    • Luxman T-117
1980s vintage; beats most anything else I've tried, including some very pricey Magnum-Dynalab; with some modest upgrades would likely be even better. Normally used only for news and documentaries.
    • Ayre Acoustics P-5xe
MM and MC. RCA and XLR inputs and outputs. Gain choices: 44, 50, 54, 60, 64, and 70 dB. A shade on the analytical side, but very flexible and excellent value for money, especially when you can find it used.
    • Furman P-2400T
All components except for the Meyer Sound X-10T speakers are plugged into this 20A balanced isolation transformer/line conditioner.
    • Custom Custom
    Three-shelf, double-wide rack made with 1
