Description

I plan to post my spare systems in this thread.

First Spare System:

is my Living room system. There's not much to it - it's built around vintage and left-over components including my speakers bought in '75, Cartridge bought in '78, a Lenco Turntable from the 70's (though I only bought it a year ago on ebay), Electron Kinetics Eagle 2 power amp ('85). The non-vintage components are the Rega Hal preamp ('98), and the Marantz CC4300 CD changer.

The Room - is horrible acoustically. it's ~15x20 with vaulted ceilings to 18' high. My wife won't permit any radical furnishing changes, so this is why I have dedicated rooms downstairs. The Infinity's are the only speaker I've tried in this room that sound decent. They produce bass flat to 22Hz so they can fill the space nicely. I've moved these speakers around a lot in various configurations. It depends on mood. I had them on the long wall (right now they're on the short wall) for a while and they're better from an imaging perspective that way, but I finally decided I like the room better this way. The most serious listening that happens here is during morning coffee and newspaper reading.

Other spares to be posted later.

Components Toggle details

    • Marantz CC4300
5 disk changer. Nice sounding low priced player.
    • Lenco L85
Belt drive semi-automatic. This is a surprizingly good table for what it cost me. It has auto shut off which is really nice in this room.
    • Signet TK7SU
MM cartridge from the '70s Shibata stylus
    • Rega Hal
I own the only one of these I've seen. I like it a lot. It's full remote control w/ a great phono stage (MM or MC). Only one quirk - it uses XLR connectors for the power amp connection, so you have to make up custom IC's. On the plus side, the XLR connection is superior to RCA - which is why they used them.
    • Kenwood KT-313
the only thing I know about this tuner is I got it for free, and it receives the 2 stations that I care to listen to.
    • Eagle 2a
it should be apparent looking at my other system that I really like the Electron Kinetics Eagle 2 amps.
    • Infinity Monitor IIa
I bought these new in 1975 while in college. These are wonderful speakers in fantastic condition. I will not part with them.
