Hi Answers2no1,
thank You for Your kind comment about "good taste".
The only thing I can say is that the "marriage" between McIntosh tubes and Tannoy Prestige dual concentric units is definitely prolific of... good notes.
I'm only a little bit sorry about the limited number of audiophiles that, in the US, can appreciate these loudspeakers due, probably, to a not so efficient distribution channel.

triumph_900

You've very good taste.

No other speaker gets the human voice so right as the Tannoy DC's. It also gets piano, guitar, horns......

They're the best. The 10" dual concentrics are AMAZING with a proper sub, of course.

answers2no1

Hi Triumph. Thank you for your kind words. Being a fellow Tannerd like you...... I Love my Tannoys. All the best

Triumph_900,

Very good points. You also earned brownie points for not using the typical recycled words that we often use so freely to describe our listening experience.

I believe are goals are similar. Quiet passages in music and hearing that layer of percussion fade-in from the far back left corner is just as important as hearing the main instrument upfront.

For Lapierre: the Loudspeakers are sitting on a wood base (to elevate the Dual Concentric source point to the ear level) through carbon blocks (3 per loudspeaker) to avoid any unwanted vibration.

Dear Lapierre,
thank You. Regarding Your questions, I'll try to give You my honest answers.
Voices, horns and acoustical instruments in general, the dimension of the soundstage: I think they represent a good example of the quality of a 15" Tannoy Prestige system.
Detail is there. And the reason is that, despite what one might think about full range loudspeakers like these, the Canterbury model has an interesting peculiarity: it is the most "monitor-like" among the prestige series. I read about Your setup and love for bookshelf speakers (my very first "audiophile" speakers were a pair of Sonus Faber Concertino) and I understand that our "philosophies" are a little bit different but I'm sure that we both prefer to think about the music that flows from our speakers than about the different approaches behind them.
One thing I would like to point out about Tannoy DC Prestige series loudspeakers is their capacity to bring You INTO the music and the fact that they release an incredible energy in terms of involvement when it's about music reproduction.

triumph_900

Tubes and Wood... how could you go wrong.

Love the cabinet and vintage design of the Canterbury which complement the McIntosh components. It's not often loudspeakers of that size complement the overall listening room visually. Frankly it just looks right. And I bet it sounds wonderful.

How does percussion and acoustical instruments sound on your system? Soundstage. Detail. Decay of the cymbals or piano note.

What platform are the Canterburys setting on?

Hi Rickmac... just a second... Ok, here I am... sorry but I was on my knees staring at Your setup... now I'm sitting in front of the PC and I can answer to Your question about 2102 and Tannoy.

Well, I did the first experiment with a pair of Tannoy Turnberry with a 10" Dual Concentric and the result was really good in particular with voices and horn instruments. At that point I understood that this was the right path to follow (for me, of course, considering my audiophile tastes, my listening room and the kind of Music I listen to) and I decided to upgrade to a 15" Dual Concentric system in Alcomax so to try to better understand the full potential of the Tannoy Prestige series.
With voices, I must admit, I obtained what I was looking for.
There are many and many other ways to obtain good results when it's about Music reproduction in a domestic environment and, for sure, much better than mine but... for me this is good enough to listen to the music I love.
So... Yes: Tannoy Prestige Series and McIntosh Tubes are a good match.
My dream? A pair of McIntosh MC2000 for my beloved Canterburys...

triumph_900

Very nice setup. How do you like the MC2102 with the Tannoys ?

Nice system' I'm sure you enjoy it! My apologies for not paying attention to your text.

I thought it was quite well explained ("It is not related"...) the reason of the two words that You quoted...

...anyway, I really hope it didn't hurt too much to Gae Aulenti!

triumph_900

The great Italian designers (Piva, Aulenti, Bellini, et al.) must really be touched by you calling this "Italian Style."!

System edited: The main change was, for sure, a brand new pair of Tannoy Canterbury HE Prestige with Alcomax 15" Dual Concentric. A new entry is a McIntosh MR-77 tuner, too. Last but not least a pair of 1.5 meter RCA Nordost SPM Reference between CD Player and Pre and a pair of 3 meters Nordost SPM Reference in Bi-Wiring for my British beauties.

triumph_900

Did a search for Turnberry and your entry showed up -- looks like we are the only two who got the Tannoy. It certainly goes very well with your room decor, warm and cozy. Hope you are enjoying your music -- I also enjoy classical and jazz very much.

From Tokyo.

Nice system!

One of these days, my wife and I need to get to Italy (from the USA). We are Italian foodies to say the least.

Great combination with music.
