Components Toggle details

    • AKG 701
Earphones (full-size). Sold my Sennheiser 600.
    • AKG K450
Headphones (mid-size) Have served me well since c 2009 Need 400 or more hours of burn-in. Basic listening / monitoring, not audiophile quality.
    • Audiotailor Jade
    Headphone amp (tube)
    • Sony SRS ZX1
Sony SRS zx1 (replace z500) Sound better on selfmade alu stands (in my home office system)
    • Huawei P30 Pro
Replacing my Samsung Note 2 (2020)
The camera is great but the audio so-so.
    • Fiio X3 v2
    Digital audio player. Bought 2016.
Main use - playback native DSD, of my recordings of vinyl LPs.
2020 - Sandisk 400 gb card. The player can now hold a file library of 100+ albums in the best DSD format. No problems.
2022 - my vinyl rips still often sound better than digital streaming - though the gap is decreasing.
The X3 has been very useful, easy to bring along to my cottage, on holidays, etc - presenting much of the sound I get in my main system.
Maybe due for an upgrade but I've not found a clear candidate yet.
    • Fiio EX1
    In-ear headphones
    • Huawei P30 pro
    Mobile system 2020
    • Audioquest NightOwl Carbon
    Headphones
    Suits my taste.
    Much debate on headfi.org.
Emphasis on pleasant rather than analytical sound.
    • Audioquest Nighthawk Over Ear Headphone
    Headphones
Although the Nightowl headphones are maybe overall better, these are very good too - more open, relaxed, analog-sounding.

System edited: New speakers ZX1 may be a bit boomy in the bass solution (burn-in, positioning and damping help) - but the overall listening experience is better than with the Z500.
