Description

This is a very musical system, long listening sessions are fatigue free and there isn't any lack of detail from previous set ups.I would venture to say, more inner detail.

Simpler is better?

The Tannoy crossovers have been upgraded with some Wima caps, they are now out of the cabinet and they are directly soldered to the speaker wire from the amp.

No speaker binding posts or cable connectors to influence the signal.

Some Walker Ultra links have also been soldered(spade connectors removed)to the crossovers.

I have a large room 35x 24 x8 that I have done some DIY wall treatment.

The speakers are on the long wall, well away from all walls.

There is no need for any bass or treble augmentation, which I felt the Quads and CLs speakers needed.

I think I have a very stat like open sound that is truthful to the music without any of the fussiness of stats.

The addition of the Audio Aero and the P9 only enhance the system, and both brought new levels of information and enjoyment.

In the future I would like to try some different IC on the CD player, and I am toying with buying a balanced input solid state amp(First Sound)and run balanced cables out of the Audio Aero dirctly into a power amp.

The Cary would see service as the amp for vinyl and fm listening.

Headphone upgrade may also be in the future and some new tubes and upgraded caps for the Cary.

Will this get me even closer to sonic nirvana?

I feel I am pretty close as it is.

Wow,I thought I had upgradiates!! You and I should become friends and I could buy all your used gear when you're done with it ;-)
How do you like those tannoys compared to your last speakers?
Paul at clear day makes outstanding cables, and is one of the nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!

I no longer use the Cary,I have improved my sound by using a pair of Red Dragon Leviathan sig.monoblock amps. Just added the Audio Valve Eklipse pre amp.
Now we are getting somewhere.
Listening to lps now really is something of a treat.
Can't say I have ever heard things so clearly or enjoyed them more.
I also should mention that buying a VPI 16.5 was a wise move.
The combination of the Red Dragon amps and the Eklipse pre is a real improvement.
The Clear day speaker and balanced IC ties everything together.
