Description

After swapping my present speaker cable, i.e. Chord Carnival Silver Plus with Van den Hul the Goldwater, i can hear a warmer sound stage and more comfortable listening for hours.

Upgraded integrated amplifier from Cambridge Audio 540A to Krell KAV-400xi, pairing with Sonus Faber Concertino Domus speaker.

I can hear a greater depth, detail and transparency of sound than before. Hope the sound will improve further after break in.

So pleased that i can enjoy all my music collection again.

Here's my current setup

Let me know your thought.

Cheers

Got my CA DacMagic, first impression (no fully run-in yet), it delivers a wider, deeper and more dynamic soundstage, better clarity, i can hear different depth of music with ease, it provides a very good and clear 3D sound imaging especially at mid-range (vocal) frequencies. I tried them at both digital sources, i.e. CA 540C CD player and Squeezebox Classic.

I believe it would be more warmer and musical after full run-in. I am very satisfy with its performance though it's just the first time audition.

Finally, the original speaker stands had been arrived and get them fixed.

Really delighted with the sound improvement, i.e. wider sound stage, less noise distortion (could be due to the weight of speaker stand), also the music instruments played are more well-defined.

It's worth and value for money. Not only sound improvement but also its aesthetic appearance.

I have ordered original Sonus Faber Concertino Domus (SFCD) speaker stand, it's hard to get one this day as the above model no longer in production, hopefully i am lucky to get one soon.

Thanks for a lot of advices from my friends, that this original SFCD speaker stand will improve the soundstage and it looks solid too.

Buddy I am totally amazed at how much of a difference putting my speakers on stands an out further in the room made. SOUNDSTAGE!!! I was previously content with a small and focused image, but now, I have a full 3D soundstage that even my wife is amazed with! Thank you for the best advise so far brother!!

I have some speaker stands on order from Musicdirect.com and should be here soon. Looking forward to it! Thanks!

Thanks Auronthas! I do not own a DAC of any kind yet. I am pretty satisfied with the on board DAC's in the Cambridge 640c so far but if I feel there will be a major upgrade, it may be something to consider. What are your thoughts?

Also, I bet that Krell sounds sweet!

jimbojrjb

With regards to your Cambridge Audio's DAC's I agree 100%. I just purchased the 640C and love it as is.

Now Krell has been runned in for for around 48 hours, yesterday i can hear a better soundstage especially at midrange compared the beginning.

I used VDH the Goldwater speaker before, but i find Chord giving a more neutral sound though it's cheaper than VDH.

I find VDH the Source is a great interconnect.

DVD player? My digital sources are Cambridge Audio 540C V2 and Slim Devices Squeezebox.

I have a plan to buy DAC before (such as Benchmark DAC), but at last i upgraded my speaker and amplifier, because it improves more compared to DAC, moreover, the DAC in CA and SB3 already quite good.

auronthas

How do you like your system with the Krell in it?
What are your thoughts on Chord and Van den Hul cables?

You have a audiophile amp speakers and cabling, so it you ad a DAC to your DVD player you can get audiophile sound from it as well.

I use my Bel Canto S300 amp with DAC3 in my home office driving the Concertino Domus and it sounds good!

I have the AA Primo Settanta and in many ways it is the best amp I ever had. It is not quite as refined as my YBA Design, but it is more engaging. Look up my system to see it. The key to its beautiful analogue sound is the use of powerpacks like Jeff Rowland and 47 Labs use, but at a budget price.

Here are some brief thoughts on it that I posted: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1213790315&read&3&4&

The Cento VT is the same integrated w/ a tube preamp. It is a smoother and not as dynamic.
The Verdi Settanta has the same powerpack amp section with a much better two tube preamp section.
The Puccini Settqanta uses a typical SS amp section w/ a SS preamp section.

The magic of the Primo, Cento, and Verdi is the LM3886 powerpacks. Do research on these National Semiconductor gain cards and you will find that they are awesome chip amps and contribute to its warm, fast, and dynamic sound.

Sebrof, you are my first response, thanks.

I think it's Concerto Domus, big brother of Concertino Domus. But someone told me Primare is not so musical pairing with SF compare with Audio Analogue.

auronthas

When I listened to the Primare CD21 Player at my dealer's, the CDP was hooked to the I21 and Sonus Faber floorstanders. I don't know the model but they were about $3,600/pair.
I thought the combo sounded very nice, to the point that I always check out the classifieds for Sonus Fabers. They're on my short list if I ever get rid of my Martin Logans.
