Description

Hi. I am putting together a modest turntable/integrated/speakers setup; I have owned many Linn pieces, including an LP12 Lingo Cirkus Trampolinn Akito and K9, a Karik Numerik, Genki, LK1, LK100, LK85, Linn Axis with Basik Plus arm, Mimik, Majik, Index, Kan III's, Keilidhs, Kabers, not to mention Naim, Rega, NAD, Boston Acoustics, Pinnacle, Dual, Roksan, PSB, JPW, even an entry level Sony sACD player! I come back to vinyl, mostly because I love the "hobby" the process of collecting vinyl...going to second hand shops in various cities, making a great discovery/"find" when I least expect it...etc. I probably have bought and sold so much audio stuff that I'd have to admit: this is been a kind of a "sinkhole" for my finances for a very long time! With my foolish tendency to keep purchasing (and then selling at a great loss) all this audio stuff, I have come to the conclusion that I do not wish to "experiment" anymore! The end result is the system I've begun this listing with.

While I have experienced much more expensive stereos, the setup I am going for is a modest one--Linn Basik/Akito arm, Intek integrated, and speakers of some sort;yet I am convinced will be a thrill to listen to every time! My feeling is that the less money I have invested in it, versus the better the sound of the stereo I wind up with, the more I will be content. I am ready to hang up my hat with these last choices, with the possible exception of upgrading the Blue Point Special cartridge to Linn's latest MM, or possibly a much better cartridge (Moving Coil?); Linn has a way about it that even their very entry level pieces sound convincing, and give a solid replay of the MUSIC! No frills here, just good sound.

After investing about 850 dollars for a used source and electronics, I am trying to decide whether to go back to Linn's earlier Nexus speakers, or with their late model Kan IV's with stands and add a Linn Subwoofer later...or...instead a pair of PSB Image 4t's. I have owned a pair of Kan III's and a pair of the 4t's, and I have heard a similar Linn setup with the Nexus LS250's...All have their merits.

If anyone has any suggestions, please advise! I know this posting sounds probably like a "who's who of Linn products :0( and I probably sound like I have owned WAY too much stereo stuff to be content with this stereo; However, I heard a Linn Basik TT with modest Linn playback, and I remember liking it as much as any other setup I've owned. And with less than 1000 USD invested so far, I think I will be very happy with any of the above speakers.

thank you for reading this!

Todd
