I own a "Full Burmester System", including the loudspeakers and to my ears is really an "hot road".When Burmester components work is sinergy the result is a great sound..
I have the 001 cd,911 power amp, 948 AC filter and Wilson 7 speaker.Is the Burmester Interconnect and the power cord good? Do you plug in the power amp to the wall or to 948 AC filter?
I am so tired to try what pre to match with the amp and what cables to match with the speakers. I spent too much time on the trying and matching and now what I only want to do is sit down and listn to the music easily.
The strength: If you got chance to have the Burmester test dic3 you will know the Burmester can play all kinds o music perfectly.
There surely must be something said for having on maker of all components. It looks wonderful and sounds the same I am sure. What changes have you made and what would you say are the strengths and weaknesses?
For the CD shoot-out, the isolation devices were Symposium Roller bearings (Tungsten upgrade), Walker Valid points, Iso bearings, Mod Squad soft shoes, Black Diamond Racing, Purist Pyramids, Carbon blocks and a couple of other "pointy" feet.
I used four different power cords and tried several chassis dampers (on top) of the players. I even got permission to remove the stock Lindemann feet to be certain they were not causing any problems.
In the end, Purist Dominus and Elrod Signature power cords nearly tied for best performance, both players liked these two.
The Symposium was the preferred isolation device with the Sony doing a bit better with a single Walker damper on top and the Lindemann using no damper of any kind.
Being an almost 100% analog guy, I have been disappointed with every high end digital playback rig I've tested.
Admittedly, the more expensive the player, the more critical I tend to be. I expect a level of performance far greater than that of an ART Di/o, Sony SACD or other inexpensive player.
I would judge the Sony's performance as "good," not excellent, and certainly not magic. That being said, Sony was chosen over the LIndemann on several occasions by as many as five and six listeners participating in the test.
There needs to be clear and consistent performance advantages for me to justify a $9000.00 investment in a CD player.
I'll continue to use my stock Sony 9000 and keep looking for the digital machine that will change my mind.
I would only add, that weeks after this shoot out I borrowed some new feet called "Still Points." They were the best footer I have tried. I hope to buy some at HE 2003 and see if I feel the same way after long term listening.
Alberta The appearance of Gryphon is the most beautiful I have ever seen , the sound is as beautiful as its appearance. How did you feel about the sound of Lindemann since you had it over one month ? I put the symposium ultra under the Lindemann without three couplers and get best result.
Vsfang, I like your system even though I have not heard that assortment of components.
I absolutely love the appearance of the Gryphon. Had a wonderful experience discussing design with one of their reps at CES some years ago. I walked away with their "Exorcist" (their demag device). Great product and beautifully constructed, like all their equipment.
What have you compared to the Lindemann to arrive at your opinion of it? I ask because I had one in my system for over a month.
Don't know if you have experimented, but my trials with the Solid Steel stands got improvements by filling them with Silica sand. Inexpensive upgrade that may be "undone" if you disagree with me.
Hope you get your Nikon back soon. Would like to see images of your actual set up.

Don't you love that photo on the W/P 7's 6 inches from the rear wall and a few feet in front of the sofa? What is that about?! I think Magnepan has indulged in this sort of nonsense as well.
Again, could you compare the rebook performance betweeen the Gryphon and the Lindeman. You said you use the Gryphon Adagio for redbook- OTOH, you did say the Lindeman is slightly better (on redbook?). I'm confused.

Both are great players.The sound of Adagio is very neutral,it shows great analogue character. There is no hint of digital fatigue nor harsh or edgy.What it flows is extremely smooth and well balanced.One word to describe this player "Truth". The Lindemann is superior to Adagio in every aspect especially in detail and bass authority but the difference is not day and night.The only thing that I complain about the Lindemann is this player needs two power cords.When playing SACD, the Lindemann is far superior to Adagio and itself plays redbook. I bought the Gryphon Adagio before the Lindemann D680 shows up in the market. .I can't let Adagio just sit on the rack and do nothing, beside the look of all Gryphon gears is so synergistic and I am not willing to sell the Adagio. That's why I use Adagio playing redbook and Lindemann playing sacd.
