Skiidman: I prefer running my 270/27ix combo through my BAT 50SE preamp. I think the sound is warmer and richer than when fed directly to my power amps. On the other hand - the preamp with remote retails for $7500, add an extra one meter run of Quattro Fils (the cable I use) and its another $1660. Add some sales tax and your looking at about $10,000. If CD is your only source then I don't think the improvement is worth $10,000. But, if you have multiple sources, (I also have a SACD player and a turntable both of which require a preamp) -then that improves the economic justification of the cost of acquiring a high quality preamp.

Will you get a better sound running the 27ix directly to your amps? If not, why? I am currently running my 27ix directly to my Krell monos and was wondering if a pre-amp would give me a better sound.
