Components Toggle details

    • Scaena Loudspeakers 3.2
Simply the best speakers I've ever heard.  They sound more real, disappear and present a much larger, deeper and more realistic image that any (often far more expensive) box speakers approach.  Every show I go to, I compare them to the competition (Wilson, Magico, et. al.), and my belief remains the same.

Line arrays radiate sound in a different (and more engaging IMO) way than point source speakers and they energize the room across all frequencies in superior fashion.
    • Paradigm Persona Center
The Beryllium tweeter and midrange drivers contribute to an incredibly resolving speaker, which is exactly what you want from a center channel.
    • Sunfire CRM-2
These small speaker use a very similar planar mid/tweet to the Sceanas and match perfectly.  They are used for all the bed layer surround as well as four overhead Atmos speakers.
    • Paradigm Sub 1 (x2)
6 top quality drivers in a force cancelling hexagonal cabinet with an 1800 watt amp -- they can knock you out of your seat in the cleanest possible way.
    • Storm Audio ISP 3D.16 Elite preamp/processor
We've had virtually ever processor made in our system and this is our choice as the best.   From a sound quality, user interface (very important for prepros) and value standpoint, it is simply a phenomenal component.
    • Hegel P30A
This is a state-of-the-art component at a reasonable price, like all Hegel pieces.

The music just flies right through it with perfect timing.  It makes you realize how much so many components get in the way of the signal.   Extended yet smooth, with a huge soundstage.
    • Hegel H30A amp
Like the preamp, extended at both frequency extremes, yet smooth on top.

State-of-the-art transparency and resolution (extraordinarily low noise), HUGE soundstage and incredible grip on any speaker.
    • NAD M28 multichannel amp
Drives several of the surround and overhead speakers.  Transparent and dynamic, along with  smooth but extended high frequencies unusual for a Class D amp.   And the new Purifi technology is the real deal -- music flows with natural ease and timing in a way that didn't happen before with Class D amps.
    • Crown Audio XLS 1502
Clean, powerhouse amps to drive the Scaena subs.
    • Teac UD-701N streamer/DAC, CG 10 master clock
An unbeatable DAC/streamer/preamp value -- it is heavily based on the 3x more expensive Esoteric Audio N-05XD streamer with the same custom designed Delta/Sigma DAC.     Resolved, but with great depth to the presentation that adds tactility.   Incredibly well built for any price point.    And much to my surprise, adding the CG10 master clock very clearly improved the presentation.
    • OPPO 203
Disc player capable of UHD that feeds the system
    • JVC JVC DLA-RS3000/DLA-NX9
An incredible projector with great black levels, tonal gradation and resolution thanks to 3 state-of-the-art 4K LCoS panel and an excellent lens
    • Artnovion acoustic panels; bass traps, absorption and diffusion panels
Top quality acoustic treatment with a variety of aesthetic designs

Hi —

I’ve actually moved on from the PS stuff; it’s just a little too laid back for my taste.   Have a Primaluna EVO 400 preamp with Parasound JC 1+ monos — it’s more lively and better in every way vs the PS stuff.

The M17 is the best sounding ‘mid priced’ processor on the market; clearly better than the Marantz’s et al, good for both music and movies, though not at Storm level of performance.   The Anyhem AVM 90 might give it a run for its money.

I’m not far from NYC btw if anyone interested.   The Scaena’s are a different , and IMO more lifelike presentation than the big, expensive box speakers out there.

Did you ever try the nad m17 processor?

I like the processor you are you using.
How is the PS audio preamp working out, it's not very expensive is this any reflection on its quality?

Wow- I haven't heard sceana speakers in quite some time but loved them the several times I did hear them.  Especially with the BHK 300's they must sound fabulous.   Do you allow fellow audiogoners to stop by for a listen?   Im in nyc - are you far?

Wow, beautiful room and system. Looks like there is a lot of absorption panels in the room, do you use any diffusers at all?
