Description

Originally entered in 2010 under opinions please. Nine years later the room and system change sufficiently to start the virtual system over. Impetus came from the Brinkmann going on the blink. I used a Bryston integrated while figuring out how to service the Brinkmann. Turns out only two places in the US qualified to service- one of the downsides of owning an esoteric unit. But the difference b/w the Brinkmann and Bryston was quite noticeable and DW and I were ecstatic when the Brinkmann came back in good working order. Sunny at the eponymous W. Covina audio store attributed the failure to blown capacitors and advised turning the power off if the unit is not going to be driving speakers for "a few days". I can't complain as the Brinkmann performed admirably for 10 years prior to going on the blink. The other major addition was the Native music server. This room is where I do much of my recreational reading and it is irritating to hear noninstrumental music not to mention verbiage from announcers when reading. The Nativ allows me to play uninterrupted music of my choice for hours on end. I cannot distinguish a difference in quality b/w it and the Bryston CD player; if anything the files played on the Nativ sounds a little less sharp- smoother.

@ wroettger-
Thanks for looking in. The Volent Paragon VL-2's  were purchased from a fellow A-goner. I'm very happy with the sound even when placed near the wall.
@milpai-
Thanks for clarifying on my behalf and for the compliment!. BTW, how do you input a members name so that it is in bold, blue color and linkable? I've tried to get that info from A-gon support w/o success.

Thanks for looking in. While the cabinet appears from the front to cover the turntable from above, it is easily accessible. See the new photo. Prior to remodeling, the audio components were in the cabinet with the stained glass window. That made the turntable very awkward to use.

Really classy, fabulous room.  Love the bookshelves with everything.  Is it hard to put LPs on the turntable?

Thanks to everyone for checking in and for the great feedback!
@jond- The Nativ is my third go at a digital music server. It indeed was buggy, but b/w tincture of time, and the latest software which came in a month after purchasing the unit and ending a trial of Roon, it does what it we'd like it to do. DW wanted the unit to be able to play music for the benefit of the cat while we're at work w/o turning itself off- done. I wanted to be able to listen to music continuously for several hours. done. The present software can't do some things that would be nice, like import album covers reliably, or play classical music by complete works rather than movements (if in shuffle mode). I have no complaints as far as the music quality itself.

Absolutely gorgeous relaxing elegant space. Looks like a very good system as well I am sure it's an enjoyable space to read and listen. How are you liking the Nativ? I read early reports of it being a bit buggy have you had any issues?

jond

The cat completes the room. Lovey space.  I’d spend countless hours here.

Such a nice system and such a wonderful room. I really love the fact that the stereo doesn't dominate the room, but is just an integral part of the whole room. I've been trying to minimize the dominance of the stereo in our place myself.

A very nice system in an absolutely wonderful setting! Tasteful but very comfy.
Must sound as lovely as it looks.
