Description

I live in a very small one bedroom apartment so not looking to put together anything big at the moment. Currently, I have a headphone only setup, with a Rega Jupiter connect to a Corda Prehead headphone amp via Luminous Audio synchestras. Listening is done through HD600s with cardas cable.

I have since decided that I could accomodate a speaker system and have already purchased the Wadia 301 from a fewllo ag'er. Having previously owned a pair of VSM-SE's (back in my home-ownership days), I am pretty much sold on Merlin and have decided on TSM-M's. I know they will pair well with the VZN-80's, but I'm more curious as to how it will all come together with the 301. It's on the analytical side and I'm hoping to tame it just a bit.

I'm trying to keep things simple, thus no pre-amp. The chief reason for going with the Wadia is because of it's built in volume control as well as digital-in ability.

Looking for any suggestions/feedback! Thanks.

Yammy,

My guess is that you are going to have a very good and simple system. I've used 3 different CD players w/built-in volume control (Theta Miles, Cary CD-308, Resolution Audio Opus 21) and I've had outstanding results with all three (the RA Opus was easily the best!).

For me, in my room, with my choice of music, I do not miss any additional dynamics that a Pre-amp may add to the music. And, the added transparency of the the CD-direct setup works great for me.

Enjoy it!!!
