Description

Original system had Fried A/2's instead of Rega Juras. Looked to replace CDP with Rega Planet 2000 or MF X-Ray v.3, but could only hear mild improvements in sound. Decided to replace my beloved Fried speakers purchased in 1981 with the Juras. Still evaluating the Juras, and am considering the Planet 2000 again. Have also toyed with the idea of an affordable tube amp to replace the Arcam Alpha One.

My philosophy is to do lots of research and try to buy right the first time. I do not like swapping losts of equipment in and out of my system, and I do not like to buy things twice! As you can tell from how long I have had my Fried speakers, I like to focus on the music, not the equipment.

    • Rega Jura
Just purchased - Sept. 2004 The Juras are replacing a pair of Fried A/2's. I am still working on their placement in my room. But, so far so good.
    • Arcam Alpha One
35W/Ch.Integrated Vintage 1999 I chose quality over quantity when I purchased this amp. It functions well, although I often wonder how much it would cost to get an amp, tube or SS, that would make a noticeable improvement over this unit.
    • Yamaha CDC-91
Vintage 1992 It just keeps on ticking, without missing a beat. Thinking it was my system's weak link, I tried to replace it, but the change in sound did not justify the cost of the players auditioned (approx. $1k). Go figure.
    • Arcam Alpha 8 tnr
Quite a nice tuner. Replaced a piece of junk Cambridge Audio that was defective out of the box.
    • Chord Chrysalis
    Vintage 1999
    • Tara Labs Omni Prism
    Vintage 1999

Well I enjoy the Rega Planet 2K. It's a very toe-tapping unit. I can listen to tunes on it for extended periods. Very satisfying. Good luck in your search
