Good question mjcmt. After my listening test, I'm wondering if there really is much if any sound difference in DACs. Some say YES absolutely. Others say NO. Right now out of 3 DACs, I really heard nothing.
Rega no longer makes a DAC. I'll probably audition 1 or 2 others to see if I can find something. I need a 2nd DAC, and Rega is out since it currently does not make a DAC.
My favorite dealer recommends Chord QuTest at about $1900. May try it and a Schiit to see...
Actually it's nice to know that the modest Rega DAC is up to it. I like Rega products and use their Mira 3 integrated amp for our TV/movie system. I wonder how much better the Rega DAC performs compared to my budget Schiit Audio Modi 3 DAC.
I really wanted either of the PrimaLuna or AudioMirror to win. Always looking to milk a little better sound out of my system. In the end, I could not differentiate any noticeable difference between 4 different DACs.
Some folks say easy to tell, others say no you won't be able to tell. I am 60 years old so pretty sure my hearing ain't what it used to be.
