MISTAKE CORRECTION: This is my trusty 115V Plinius SA-250 MK III, (not a MK II) SN 7141, from 1992, that I got when I was the USA Distributor for Plinius at Fanfare International with the late Victor Goldstein. It has played music for me for many years, and I am only giving it up because I moved house recently to a smaller place, and this amp is just too physically large for my current needs. Otherwise, I would never sell it. This guy is switchable from Class AB to Class A for finer-sounding reproduction. It is pure Class A up to about 100 wpc, and then high-bias Class AB up to 250 wpc. It is stable down to about 2 ohms. It can also be used in a “strapped” configuration for 900-1000 watts at 8 ohms.
I recently sent this amp to Ralph Abramo, USA sales agent for Plinius and the official serviceman for Plinius updates and repairs. He went over the amp with a fine-toothed comb and made sure all was in proper working order. He also added some updates to the pre-driver section to make the amp more reliable overall as well as better sounding. I paid $1000 for the service check and updates.
There were several iterations of this amplifier made before the design turned into the current SA-Reference amp. I always liked the MK II for its lavish and dynamic presentation. I played it with may speakers over time, most notably with my treasured Shahinian Hawk loudspeakers. But make no mistake: this amp will drive practically any load with stability and safety, and your speakers will sing to their best.
As for physical condition, I would honestly give this am a 7/10, as there are several small scratches on the amp, as well as one heat sink tip being slightly dented. Please look at all of the pictures. I have included a user manual for the MK IV version, but it is essentially the same thing that the MK II was. Ralph did add a ground lift switch to the rear panel where there was no one before.
I am shipping the amp in an original Plinius crate vis Estes Express to anywhere in the lower 48 states. Buyer pays all freight costs. I do not mind shipping to other areas, especially if the voltage needs to be 220/240V, as there is a simple user-operated terminal strip inside the chassis that allows it to work with 220/240V. Anywhere the amp is needed to go outside of the outside of the lower 48 USA states, the buyer also pays all freight costs, as well as any duty/taxes needed at the delivery point.
I accept Paypal, as well as checks (that will need to pre-clear) or cash if there is a local buyer. Palpal users please add 3%.
