This NAGRA IV-S stereo tape recorder is in excellent/near perfect condition, was gently used and has been meticulously cared for. This particular unit (#0604848) is a gem rarely seen in this fine condition. Our offering includes the Nagra IV-S audio tape recorder, power adaptor, Nagra IV-S-SI QSLS pilot system option, connecting cables and the original paper instruction manual.

Since you’ve continued to read this, you already know that the iconic Nagra is the industry’s highest value in terms of performance available for production of sound recording. You know that the hardware is tough, durable and extremely forgiving; on a practical level, Nagra delivers under arduous circumstances. Most importantly, it’s the sound quality that Nagra delivers.

The Nagra IV-S is a high-end analog stereo tape recorder with two x 2 mm audio tracks and a central track for NQS-L Pilot use. It has dual level pots, limiters and NAGRASYNC pilot equalizer presets. This is a portable 6.35 mm (1/4") analogue audio tape recorder designed for high quality music recording, documentary films, cinema and television applications.

The Nagra IV-S employs a 14 kHz sync signal that is recorded using FM modulation on a third or center track that can simultaneously be employed as an additional but lower quality "cue" track.  The two audio channels may be used with either the two internal microphone pre-amplifiers (switchable between Dynamic, T power and Phantom power) or with a current line input via the QCSE cable. The two potentiometers on the front panel may be mechanically "GANGED" together for easier control by moving the small white lever located on the green control.

The Nagra IV-S has three speeds: 38 emfs, 19 emfs and 9.5 emfs (15, 7½ and 3¾ ips) with the following standards: NAB, CCIR and NAGRAMASTER (at 15 ips only).

The NAGRA IV-S also contains a switchable limiter, a built-in loudspeaker, provision for connection to an external noise reduction system and an internal reference generator for line up, and calibration purposes. The machine can be powered by either the external supply ATN-3 (included, see pics) or 12 internal D batteries (not included).

The machine may be fitted with the Nagra IV-S-SI QSLS (see pics), which is included in this offering. Like the IV-S, this NAGRASYNC F.M. 50/60Hz pilot system option synchronizer is in excellent condition, looks almost new, and the connection cables are included.

The Nagra IV-S was originally introduced in 1971, joining the Nagra line of audio recorders manufactured in Switzerland since 1951. Many mechanical and electronic modifications have been made since its release to adapt it to evolving demands. The last major development was made in 1984 when the SMPTE / EBU 80 bits center-track time code was added.
