My system was born from an HT system which was my main preoccupation for years until 2020 when I purchased a Rega P2 to spin old vinyl discovered in the garage during a Covid cleaning session. Suffice it to say it grew from there. The Rega is now with Groovetracer subplatter and Delrin platter with a RP 330 arm, with external LPS; Ortofon 2M Black stylus out to a Rega MM Phono. Traded DefTech 9080 theater speakers for 1.7i Maggies.. PrimaLuna Evo 300 preamp. Underneath: Schitt Gumby MB, Bluesound Node 2i with PD Creative LPS, ROTEL 14 CDP with Ifi SPDIF Purifier 2 to the Schitt Gumby, Parasound A21+ and Synergistic Resesrch Powercell 10SE. Also 2 SR energizers plugged into the Powercell as well as a Eau Harmonizer plugged into the wall. Cables: Synergistic Research, GR research, Audioquest. There are a pair of 10” subs, MartinLogan Dynamo 400s. Theater: Denon 4500h, DefTech 9060 center and DefTech surrounds. TV: LG C1 77” Oled.
Well, I think your system and my system are about the same distance away from the state of the art - which some would say is pretty far. But we both have good musics systems, and we are both able to really explore good music through them. I like the notion of "good enough" - where we can know that something else might be better, but we also know that what we have is good enough to use for its intended purpose - musical joy through exploration.
"Comparison is the Thief of Joy." I think Teddy Roosevelt said that. I repeat it to myself from time to time, 'cuz it's easy to forget.
I think the Planar 2 is a good table to play with. I have one, and also used the metal subplatter with a Delrin platter, and it changed it for the better. I got a little obsessive, and used the Pete Riggle VTAF for the tonearm, and also his counterweight. Everything made it a little clearer, articulate and a little more fun.
If you have enough power, Maggies are wonderful. If this is "only the beginning," you are on a good path.
