An Air tight 300b? Must have been good! I imagine the Shindo sounds different but beautiful also. Like you I clearly prefer high efficiency speakers with high quality lower powered tube amplifiers. Charles,
Exactly Charlse. I will audition it first. The silverback upgrades results are pretty vague at the moment. Having said that, the silverbacks are quite efficient as I have used the airtight 300B amps on them for awhile and it was awesome. I guess it would probably have a different presentation due to the different designs of the 2 speakers. The Montrachet is rated into a 16 ohm load and in ultra linear mode. I hope to have a single ended shindo so having high efficiency speakers is a must for me.
The O/96 Orangutan would seem an easier load for the Montrachet amplifier. I wonder how much the presentation differs between the two speakers. Charles,
Devore silverbacks. Will either upgrade the crossovers and tweeters and bring tip to specs with the current production silverbacks or (upgrade or downgrade?) to the 0/96 orangutan.
The schick has no problem tracking the Mickey hart dafos album whereas the SME will always produce distorted sound when the chains hit the floor. My SME is rewired with cardas cables and mounted on a bronze base yet the schick still sounds more refined and the music is natural sounding. It's a well made arm and I have mine mounted on a solid bronze arm base that is adjustable to take Spu G and A style cartridges.
Rack manufactured by guizhu from china, it's good and cheap, the oppo cannot hold a light to the garrard 301 which sounds more like music than any digital especially in a shindo set up. I feel that any shindo set up has got to involve vinyl playback to really maximize the shindo magic.
Hi Tristannatalie, I have just put into place a similar system. I was even considering an oppo 105 and was wondering how you like your oppo vs. the analog and with the shindo?
System edited: Just replace the SME 3012 with a Thomas schick tone arm with a custom made bronze arm base that is adjustable to take both A style and G style spu.

Catfishbob, Did not really compare with any other sut but I initially wanted an A23 sut but decided to go with bob's because it can be customised to fit my Emt Xsd 15 and my Denon 103.
The brand of the rack is guizhu from china and it doe have a discerning effect on the sound. Dan, you should contact Stefano or the bearing and platter but do remember to check if your plinth can take the extra length of the bearing. I was prepared to drill through the base of my cherrywood plinth which I did . Stefano is a great guy to deal with, you should check out his blog and see his 301.
