My system has changed in the last few months. I now run an Octave Audio V70SE tubed integrated and went back to my Tyler Acoustics 7U speakers. The 7U's just work better with the Octave as opposed to the MM5's.

I really liked the LSA integrated but I missed the tube sound a lot. If you've never heard an Octave amp, do yourself a favor and get your ears on one.

Yes, I really like them a lot B. I've packed up my Tyler 7U's and I'm seriously considering selling them.

Hey, T, are you still enjoying those Tylers? I'm really starting to think that I'll give them a try when I get some money for them(could be 6 months out). All the reviews I've read had nothing but praise for them. Ever since I've laid eyes on yours, I've wanted them, and it's only grown with time.

I like your setup! Very nice! May eventually try some tyler speakers if I ever have the $ to do so.

b_limo

Tyler's, yeah! Ever spread them further apart?

For me, it's the upgrading that keeps me interested, and it's almost always rewarding. Keep up the good work.

Well Tim, I've edited again!!!! I just recieved my new LSA Standard hybrid integrated amplifier with Underwood Hifi modifications. I felt I wasn't getting everything I could out of the 10" woofers on the Tylers with the Rogue. Don't get me wrong, the combination sounded very good but the 150 watts of solid state power from the LSA takes control of the woofers and really let's them do their thing. The 6922 tube based preamp section smooths things out real nice. After living with a tube based system for a few years, I knew I couldn't live without them somewhere in the chain. Does this set up sound better? It's hard to say better, so I'll just say it sounds different, in a very pleasing way.

Grand system, you've been doing allot of editing, is it coming together?

System edited: My Tyler Acoustics MM5's arrived today. These things sound really, really good right out of the box. I'm getting the extra low end that I wanted at no cost to the sweet midrange and highs that my 7U's were giving me. I actually prefer the tweeters that Ty is using now over the Seas Milleniums that are in my 7U's (never thought that would happen!!!!). I'm gonna spend the rest of the evening listening to tunes, can you blame me?

They are not big Tylers Shakey. Replace the 7Us ? Maybe, maybe not, depends on how the MM5s sound in my system.

tpreaves

Those are nice and I bet they will sound great.

thanks

evank

Surely you aren't replacing your big Tylers with these speakers, are you?

System edited: My new MM5s were shipped today. This is the first pair Ty built as a floorstander. I can't wait to hear them.

Tpreaves,

It is possible to DIY some acoustic treatment that is WAF/SAF friendly, and very affordable, but it does take a little bit of time.

One can create wall treatments with frames, and covers that blend with the decor. Another approach is (when the spouse is not home, or busy in another part of the home for a while) to pull up a good chair, point the speakers in and listen near field. YOU can enjoy much higher volume levels without turn up the volume control.

I just responded to your post of 3-10-12 on my virtual system with some additional details on near field listening. Go there and review my comments.

You might be amazed at how much more accurately your system images in the near field, and how much bigger your sound stage becomes.

Simple stuff like adding an area rug some wall hangings. Nothing specifically made for the task.

tpreaves

Since you dropped in on my system, I thought I would drop in on yours. Nice.

Yes tubes can make a huge difference.

What have you done to treat the acoustics of your room?

I absolutely love the 7Us.

tpreaves

great job-uncomplicated yet quality. Question-are you satisfied w/the Tylers? I am buying a pair of Linbrook system 2s. I have heard only glowing remarks so far.

gadmanrdh

Real nice, man.....I bet it sounds pretty wonderful. Enjoy your music, and Happy Listening.
