Description

After some abuse for the name of this system I decided it was time for a change. It's better than it used to be, but not as good as it will be, right?

I was wrong the CDP is working like usual, which isn't say that it's working very well. BUT it is working.

System edited: It seems as though the trusty Nakamichi has quit on me. I have not been able to the CDP to accept a disc. I have tried several and it spits them back out. I wonder if it's a commentary on my music. Any suggestions in the $200-$500 range?

I wish I could be more helpful with that one. I have a couple of XRCD's. They are usable on a redbook only CDP, but are of higher quality than standard redbook. Maybe they are similar to the CBS 'super bit mapping' CD's but I'm not sure.

Maybe someone else can offer more insight.

Uppermidfi.
Thanks.
Another question for you. I have Pioneer Elite 47Ai uni-player. Now, I've played HDCD, SACD, XRCD ON IT, and they all sounded very good. However, my understanding was that for HDCD we need an HDCD decoder. And what is XRCD?
Thanks.

Redbook is the standard CD format, as opposed up over sampled up sampled, super Audio, or DVD-A.

uppermidfi

what is considered to be a "redbook " CD
THANKS

I have had better systems. The speakers are tiny, but for the room in which they sit, they're probably a good match. Tubes are kinda new to me. I had them a long time ago.

It isn't a great system, but I've heard worse. I've probably owned worse!

I bought a box set of "25 Jazz Greats" a few years ago and have heard a number of things I really like. The usual suspects are all there, but I also got a chance to hear Teddy Wilson, Fletcher Henderson, and Bix Beiderbecke. SInce then I've bought some Louis Armstrong and others. I realy don't know that much about the people, I just like the music.

I like Pink Floyd also, ive really started to enjoy Bluegrass and jazz from the 50s ,even starting to enjoy some classical,Who do you like as far as jazz goes?

raytheprinter

I'll bet it sounds pretty darned GOOD!

Ray I have all kinds of different stuff. Lately I've been on somewhat of a Pink Floyd kick. I have some classic rock, a tiny bit of country, and some Jazz.

I liked Ultravox in the 80's and still buy Midge Ure's stuff. That's not much of an answer, but it's all I got.

uppermidfi

Hello,What kinds music do you enjoy?

raytheprinter

Owner
It doesn't really sound that bad. I have had better stuff inthe past, and in better rooms.

The room I have it in is tiny, and with the little bit of furniture I do have there really isn't a good place to sit, but I still have it on most of the time.

uppermidfi

My DAC and DIP at retail are less than the Opis IC you have,,anyway ,,it was just a suggestion!I hope you can get your system to the point that you can change the name,to something that indicates you are enjoying music.Peace,Ray

Thanks Mr Printer, I wish I could afford to upgrade something.

uppermidfi

For a better explanation than i can offer, check Monarchy Audios website, goes between your transport and DAC,and reclocks the signal to reduce jitter, also boost and grounds the signal i believe, really works well for mysystem, very good overall improvement with redbook CD ! Ray

I may sound like one, but what's a DIP?

uppermidfi

A DAC with a Monarchy DIP may help with digital, they really did wonders for my system!,Ray

System edited: Maybe it's not the worst on AudiogoN anymore. The integrated amp is a lot better than the Sherwood receiver! The purist sounds better than the patchcords I had before.

uppermidfi

So how are the Speltz cables? I'm thinking about getting a pair for some monitors.

System edited: It's a step up from the old system, but when I built a new office I thought I would need a better system.

uppermidfi

Bet it sounds better than mine guy.
;)

Actually I think the Sherwood stereo receivers are a FANTASTIC value! For the cost of an expensive interconnect, you get a perfectly enjoyable preamplifier, power amplifier, and AM/FM tuner all in one chassis.

I plan on purchasing one as well. Two big thumbs up!

I looked once, but couldn't see it for all the trees!
