Description

This system resides in a fairly large room 22'x23'with cathedral ceilings. All wall and ceiling surfaces are covered in rough finished Pine.

This system morphed from stereo, to home theater and then back to stereo focus again. But I believe I have captured the best of both worlds. I intend to upgrade the Arcam FMJ DV-27 to DVD Audio in the next year.

The Audio Research Pre and Lexicon provide great sound and flexability within the system.

I especially like your golden retriever. Mine seems to enjoy the sound from my Avalon's. They are angels in fur suits!

I really like the sound from these cables. I believe that they are capable of exposing tremendous detail, with deep accurate bass and silky highs. I own about 200 SACDs and have been very happy with my sytems overall ability to exploit the detail and frequency range in this format.

Looks like an excellent set up. What is your opinion on the Magnums?

OK Ellery911 you were right. I pulled the 802s out into the room about 4 feet and experimented a little with the distance apart from each other and have been able to increase the bass and imaging dramatically. This is something I have read about here in the forums (I have also been to the rivesaudio.com website to use their room layout software). But I was too lazy too pursue chnages because of room cosmetics. The pictures here still reflect the old position of my speakers, but the improvement in sound I am now getting are the result of more intelligent speaker placement.

I haven't done anything except furnish the room with large oriental rugs, a large leather couch and chair and a few other pieces. The room does not exhibit any booming or echoing characteristics. Good luck with your 802s and remember they take their time breaking in.

I just bought a new house that has pine paneling in the room as you do. I have purchased some 802's for my system that will be arriving in a few days, I can't wait. The problem is, the room is very live. I setup my current Kef C80's in there and they sound terrible. I just moved from an apartment where they sounded their absolute best in the 18 years that I owned them. I was very disappointed and I know it has to do with the room. What did you do, if anything to acoustically deaden the room?

I personally like the combination very much. The Mac is powerful, clean and to my ears very true. I have also heard the new 501s powering N802s and they really sounded amazing.

Nice setup!
a quick question though
I see you hook the N802 with a Mac...
I'm in the process of rebuiding my system from scratch..and Macs have been my favorite Amps

and I am looking at BWs (800or 802 with MC402 or 501s) for my new speakers

How do you think your match is, and/or in general between Macs and BWs
thanks

Thanks for the compliment. Yes I have experimented a bit with the speaker placement and have found the position they are in to be a good balance between bass response which is effeted by the distance from the back wall and the focus and dimension that you describe.

I like your setup...my place/system is like a "mini me" version of yours....well...more like "microscopic me"lol. I have the t&g wood cathedral ceilings and bamboo floors. Ultimately I would love a set of 802's powered by more powerful Electrocompaniet gear than I'm currently using. Just out of curiosity...have you tried moving your 802's out a little further into the room? I have found that the further I get my speakers out infront of the t.v., the better the focus gets. Still...I'm very impressed/envious.

happy listening

Ellery
