I recently made a signficant upgrade to my system by adding the Ayre stack. At the same time, my local dealer had a screaming deal on his demo 5a's in upgraded finish, so I swallowed hard and did it all at once. Once I heard everything, fully burned in and tuned to the room, there were no regrets.
System is used 3/4 for music and about 1/4 for video. Listen to jazz, female vocals, classic rock, alternative, some classical -- about everything but rap and country. Sounds wonderful, even though I'm sure I could benefit from a slightly larger room.
The "almost done" comes from my desire to add vinyl (many albums just sitting around, itching to be played). Intrigued by VPI classic and thinking a phono stage might be a good place to insert some tubes in my system.
Would also eventually like to replace the Dunlavy 1a's. For now, they're the same general design of speakers (time and phase coherent, first-order crossovers) as my 5a's, so they work reasonably well together, but would like to move to Vandy there, too.
