Description

Slowly evolving over time since I started with my very first receiver (JVC-100 w/Ohm 1 loudspeakers). Always looking for ways to upgrade and improve, of course. The most recent purchase being the Emotiva ERC-4 CD/DAC device. The biggest single improvement being to add a 2nd Infinity BU-1 sub-woofer. The Bryston has dual "mains" that allowed me to feed the output to the amplifier of the BU-1's. The dbx 118 was inserted between the Bryston and the Infinity's to provide range expansion over the lower frequency cut-off. With the kindness of Mrs Claus, the Fluance RT-84 was added to the system on Christmas Day.

At the recommendation of Kirk at Echo Audio, I ordered a Hana EL Moving Coil cartridge for the Fluance. The cartridge is exactly as advertised! Tight, warm bass. A clear, defined sound stage. Plays well on everything from Hayden to Tchaikovsky to The Crusaders.

Perhaps the best piece I could have added to my system

    DBX Disc playback unit.
    • SAE 5000

Allow me to suggest a few changes..just for fun!
Keep the sweet 6 Kappa's but add carpet spikes to the stands for tighter, deeper bass and smoother mid-range to tweeter transition...and better imaging.
Replace the old JVC cables with Linn Analog turntable cables and RCA jacks, and maybe find a vintage Acutex M-312 STR cartridge.
Then, for the heart and soul, find a good Pioneer SX-1250 receiver, have it completely re-furbished, then add some Tara Labs RSC speaker cables, and WOW!

IMHO, the Carver pieces are limiting the sonic ability of this system dramatically!

I can't imagine a more enjoyable 70's and 80's sonic experience!
Cool Toys VV, enjoy!
